Alpbach/Tyrol/Austria. It would be appropriate that you present findings
from the field of forest products, such as

· supply and demand for new products

Dear Division 1 - 9 Mailing List Members,
The Department of Plant Sciences, University of Oxford, is offering a Wood
Professorship of Forest Science
The Wood Professorship of Forest Science is a newly established post at the
Department of Plant Sciences and its purpose is to develop a research
initiative that will generate the fundamental science necessary to underpin
evidence-based forest policy developments. This professorship provides an
exciting opportunity for an individual with outstanding academic
achievements and vision to develop a world-class research programme at the
University of Oxford. The department enjoys an internationally leading
position in research and teaching in plant sciences, with research groups
focusing on biochemistry and systems biology, cell and developmental
biology, ecology, evolution and systematics. The Professor will provide
academic leadership in Forest Science in the Department of Plant Sciences
and throughout the University. He/she is expected to contribute to promoting
the 'Trees for Tomorrow' initiative within the Plants for the 21st Century
(P21C) Institute.

The first African IUFRO-FORNESSA Regional
Congress and ITTO/AFF Forest Policy Day
will be held from 25 to 30 June 2012 in
Nairobi, Kenya. The theme of the Congress
is: Forest and Trees Serving the Peole of
Africa and in the World.
The Congress will provide a platform for
African forest scientists, forest managers
and policy makers and their colleagues from
other parts of the world to share and
exchange information and experiences on
critical issues affecting forest and
wildlife resources in Africa. The overall
goal of the Congress is to demonstrate how
forest science is impacting on livelihoods,
environmental management and development in
Africa. The Congress will highlight
research that puts relevant information in
the hands of forest communities, forest
managers, policy makers, the private sector
and civil society.

COST is currently inviting researchers to submit proposals on green
Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the forest sector. A
Green Engineering Camp (GEC) that will take place in Plitvice National Park,
Croatia, 2-6 July 2012, http://www.cost.eu/events/gec, where outstanding
proposals will be presented. The GEC's main aim is to collect and award
innovative ideas using Green ICT in real-life applications, especially
related to current and future challenges in the European forest sector. It
will encourage intelligent use and development of ICT to increase
environmental efficiency in forests, forestry, forest industries, logistics
etc.
This is an excellent initiative, but it relies entirely on a sufficient
number of proposals. Examples of possible subject areas can be found in the

You are invited to submit proposals and/or distribute the call text widely,
not only to foresters and forest institutions but also to ICT and others.
