Dear members attending the IUFRO2014 World Congress this week,
Some of you may also be moderating sessions or else attending these
sessions. Please be reminded that you are encouraged to attend the all
important coming Division 5 Business Meeting this Friday 10 October, 19:00
to 21:30 at Room 355B. The agenda of the meeting is about the management of
D5 groups, and also some news about the next D5 conference set for 2017.
This is your forum to raise issues and help make D5 even better for IUFRO.
If you are a moderator of your technical session, I ask you to please
encourage the delegates of your session to also attend the business
meeting, and stand a chance to become future D5 officers.
My term as D5 Coordinator ends after the World Congress, Pekka Saranpaa
will resume this responsibility thereon from 2015 - 2019 term. I am sure
the membership of D5 will continue to give the in-coming coordinator and
the D5 management as much if not more, support as we steer the Division to
meet new and challenging expectations of forest products research and
utilization in the next term.
See you at the coming D5 business meeting.

Dear colleagues,
Registration is open for the FAO-run online conference ‘The Economics of Climate Change Mitigation Options in the Forestry Sector’, which will take place as six sessions during 6-27 February 2015. A hundred free places are available in each online session. Forestry policy makers, forest economists, scientists and researchers from all over the world are expected to join this conference to discuss the costs and benefits of different mitigation options. The conference will examine how different countries and regions mitigate climate change through forest management interventions and improved use of wood. Discussions will also showcase lessons learned from mitigation efforts and their impacts on the value chain of forest products.
The deadline for case study submission is 10 November 2014 and for registration is 16 January 2015. For more information and registration, please visit the conference web page
