Betreff: World Conference on Timber Engineering 2020
Dear Members of IUFRO organization
Greetings,
We are the Secretariat of the World Conference on Timber Engineering 2020, also known as WCTE2020.
This conference is held biennially, and next year will be held in Santiago, Chile, the first South American country to be its host. The WCTE is the center of the discussion about the latest advances related to timber construction and gather different actors that come from the world of engineering, architecture, and construction, as well as people from the forest industry and researchers that contribute to the knowledge of public policies, producers, and suppliers that share their developments, and now with more strength, sustainable forest management.
In this event, important researchers and representatives of the public and private sectors will meet to disseminate and discuss the technical advances of this material. Considering your extensive work on this field as both a platform and a congress that gathers people around the topics of science and forest, we would like to ask for your help to spread the word within your community, so more people related to these areas know that they are welcome to send their abstracts, especially in the topics “Sustainable Forest for Lumber Production”, “Policies Implementation and Management” and “Education, Promotion and Future Trends”. For this, we have attached the Call for Papers official document to this email.
If you are interested, please let us know if you need any specific information or any other material, or how should we approach this matter.
Thank you for taking the time to read this mail. If you have any further questions about the conference or any other matter, you can reach us via email.
Best Regards,

Dear colleagues,
We would like to inform you that the registration is now open for the 21th International Nondestructive Testing and Evaluation of Wood Symposium, which will be held in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, September 25-27, 2019. This symposium will be hosted by the Forest Research Institute Baden-Württemberg (FVA) and is co-sponsored by USDA Forest Service Forest Products Laboratory (FPL), the Forest Products Society (FPS) and the International Union of Forestry Research Organizations (IUFRO). This Symposium is a forum for those involved in non-destructive testing and evaluation of wood, wood-based products, and structures.
Objectives of the conference:
The objectives of this symposium are to provide the international nondestructive testing and evaluation of wood research community a venue to present results from their latest research and technology transfer activities and make them available to scientists and engineers from around the world. Networking among participants will foster new collaborative efforts, with an emphasis on implementation of non-destructive testing technologies around the globe.
Subject areas covered:
- Nondestructive characterization of wood and wood-based materials
- Evaluation of forest materials for optimal utilization
- Advanced grading technologies for solid wood and engineered wood products
- Condition assessment, evaluation, and repair of existing wood structures
- Condition assessment of historic wood artifacts and structures
- Evaluation and assessment of urban trees
- Industrial application of emerging nondestructive testing technologies
- Other nondestructive evaluation related research and development activities

WANGARI MAATHAI "FOREST CHAMPIONS" AWARD - ANNOUNCEMENT OF 2019 AWARDS
You are invited to nominate a candidate for the 2019 CPF Wangari Maathai
"Forest Champions" Award by 10 May! This is a unique opportunity to
acknowledge an inspiring individual who has improved our forests and the
lives of people that depend on them.
The Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF) is awarding one extraordinary
individual for improving our forests and the lives of people who depend on
them!
The CPF launched the first Wangari Maathai Award in 2012 to honour and
commemorate the impact of this extraordinary woman who championed forest
issues around the world. In 2019, the CPF will award another individual for
her/his outstanding achievements for forests.
The awardee will receive a cash prize of USD20,000 along with international
recognition of the outstanding contributions to preserve, restore and
sustainably manage forests and to raise awareness of the key role forests
play in supporting local communities, rural livelihoods, women, youth and
the environment.
The Wangari Maathai Award is an initiative of CBD, CIFOR, CITES, FAO, GEF,
ICRAF, ITTO, IUCN, IUFRO, UNCCD, UNDP, UNEP, UNFCCC, UNFF and World Bank,
all members of the CPF. Nominations will be reviewed by an international
jury of renowned personalities, who will also take into consideration such
elements as empowering women, youth and civil society, fostering social
commitment, promoting networks and improving the valuation of forests in
society.
Eligibility: Applicants should be nominated by a third party. Nominees may
be persons, living or recently deceased, who have made exceptional
contributions to forests. Professional and research contributions will only
be considered if they are conducted outside of normal work-related
responsibilities. Applications received from a nominee's kin or business
partner are not eligible for consideration. Applications related to
grassroots initiatives are particularly encouraged.
Selection: The closing date for receipt of nominations is 10 May 2019. The
awardee will be selected by a jury nominated by CPF members, which will take
into account gender and regional balance when considering potential
awardees.
Announcement: The awardee will be notified of their selection via email in
mid-August 2019. This year's Wangari Maathai Award will be presented on 30
September 2019, at the XXV IUFRO World Congress to be held at Expo Unimed on
29 September - 5 October 2019 in Curitiba, Brazil.
To submit an application: Please send completed nominations to the CPF
Secretariat at cpf(a)un.org. The attached guidelines should be used when
submitting your nomination.
