Dear all,
the preliminary program of the IUFRO World Congress is now available online:
https://app.oxfordabstracts.com/events/691/program-app/program
I am glad that there are so many sessions related to Division 5 Forest Products and I want to thank all office holders who have organised the sessions. I hope to see many of you in Curitiba.
Research groups and working parties will have their administrative sessions (former "business session") on Tuesday, 1st, Wednesday 2nd, Friday 4th and Saturday 5th of October over the lunch break from 12:00 to 12:50 or 13:00 to 13:50 (two 50-minute blocks) and also in the evening on Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd from 17:30 to 18:20 or 18:30 to 19:20. They are open for everybody and a good possibility to recruit new office holders for units. According to IUFRO rules, an office holder can serve only for two 5-year-terms. We will need to change many coordinators and deputies but I hope all of you who want to be active in Division 5 could continue in other positions.
Below I have selected the sessions related to Division 5 which are included in the present program. Hopefully I have been able to include all sessions related to forest products. They are grouped according to congress themes:
B2d Wood and tree-ring studies of forest adaptation to climate change; implications for wood production
B5a Climate change, environment and conservation: challenges from the analysis of tree rings
B5b Innovative wood protection and insect pest control strategies to mitigate climate change in the tropics and warm temperate climes
C1a Managing forest ecosystem resilience and biological and social diversity for future forest products
C2c Towards Sustainable Development of the Global Teak Sector in a Changing World
C3b Digital transformation in wood industry
C3i LPF/SFB - IAWA Panel Discussion: New Methods and Applications of Tropical Timber Identification to Promote Legal Logging
C4f Forest Assessment, Modelling and Management for Nonwood Forest Products
C5a Characterizing Properties of Plantation Wood for Optimal Value
D5a Improving forest management certification: integrating ecosystem services with forest assessments
C5c Innovative Utilization of Bamboo and Rattan Resources
C5f Quality requirements of forest biomass for biorefinery
C5g Quantifying and forecasting market specific forest products in the forestry wood chain
C5h Research and industrial use of wood bio-based (formaldehyde free) adhesives: raw material and introduction to the wood-based industry
C5i Sustainable Use of Non-timber Products and Conservation of Semi-Arid and Savanna
C5j The use of forest and mill residues for advanced bioenergy/biofuels production
C6a The role of forests and trees in the nature-based solutions discourse
C8c The Bioeconomy and Non-Wood Forest Products
C9c Resource efficiency of wood-based products and manufacturing
C9d Societal perceptions, new products, markets, and business models of the circular forest bioeconomy
D4c Valuation Issues for Wood and Nonwood Forest Products to Balance Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in Managed Forests
F8a Wood and Forest Culture: Addressing a Sustainable Future
There will be also five posters sessions of Division 5 during every afternoon.
The next all-Division 5 congress will be in 2022 and we will open the bid after the world congress.
Best regards,
Pekka

Betreff: World Conference on Timber Engineering 2020
Dear Members of IUFRO organization
Greetings,
We are the Secretariat of the World Conference on Timber Engineering 2020, also known as WCTE2020.
This conference is held biennially, and next year will be held in Santiago, Chile, the first South American country to be its host. The WCTE is the center of the discussion about the latest advances related to timber construction and gather different actors that come from the world of engineering, architecture, and construction, as well as people from the forest industry and researchers that contribute to the knowledge of public policies, producers, and suppliers that share their developments, and now with more strength, sustainable forest management.
In this event, important researchers and representatives of the public and private sectors will meet to disseminate and discuss the technical advances of this material. Considering your extensive work on this field as both a platform and a congress that gathers people around the topics of science and forest, we would like to ask for your help to spread the word within your community, so more people related to these areas know that they are welcome to send their abstracts, especially in the topics “Sustainable Forest for Lumber Production”, “Policies Implementation and Management” and “Education, Promotion and Future Trends”. For this, we have attached the Call for Papers official document to this email.
If you are interested, please let us know if you need any specific information or any other material, or how should we approach this matter.
Thank you for taking the time to read this mail. If you have any further questions about the conference or any other matter, you can reach us via email.
Best Regards,
