I have a vacant position within the Tree and Wood Properties group at Forest Research. Please note this is not the same as another position advertised recently.
The position is based in Edinburgh, Scotland and we are looking for someone with good maths and programming skills to work with us on a number of projects relating to tree biomechanics and forest products, as this includes the measurements of trees it is also of interest to Division 4. Please distribute this to anyone who might be interested, but please make sure you meet the eligibility, including nationality requirements, before applying.

Division 5. RG 5.07 IUFRO biorefinery Research Group
Dear Colleagues in the IUFRO Division 5
This is a reminder of the *biorefinery workshop* organized by the IUFRO
Biorefinery Research Group (RG 5.07) in Autrans, France on *wood
deconstruction for chemicals production.*This workshop is held in
conjunction with the 14^th European Workshop on Lignocellulosics and
Pulp (EWLP 2016) which brings together about 200 participants around
themes related to wood and pulping chemistry. This gives opportunities
of fruitful exchanges between the wood chemists and cellulose producers
communities and our IUFRO biorefinery research group.
The IUFRO sessions will take place on Thursday, June 30, 2016 afternoon
and Friday, July 1, morning.
All the information concerning this IUFRO biorefinery workshop is given
on the worshop web site www.ewlp2016.org, including final program,
registration procedure and accommodation.
We encourage those of you interested in this event to register as soon
as possible.

Welcome to Vancouver in 2017!
The 2017 IUFRO All-Division 5 (Forest Products) Conference will be held in Vancouver, Canada from June 12th to 16th, 2017. The Conference is organized jointly by IUFRO Division 5, the Faculty of Forestry at the University of British Columbia, FPInnovations, and the Society of Wood Science and Technology. In recognition of the pressing global need for the forest sector to be a leader in sustainability, diversification, and innovation, the theme of the 2017 IUFRO Division 5 Conference is: Forest Sector Innovations for a Greener Future.
This Innovation/Sustainability theme will form a unifying basis for the week-long Conference and will guide the agenda through a series of plenary sessions that will catalyze discussion on what the future forest products sector might look like. Each morning will feature two keynote presentations; one a research-based talk featuring a prominent academic, the other a more pragmatic, real-world talk featuring a prominent practitioner from industry, government, civil society, or an indigenous community. The plenary topics include:
Forest Sector Innovation; How can innovative forest sector based environmental and social approaches assure a greener future for our global society?

We are very pleased to announce the Second international scientific and expert conference "Natural resources, green technology and sustainable development-GREEN/2“ which will be held in Zagreb from 5th to 7th October 2016. The first conference in 2014 was very successful with over 200 participants from 16 countries participated and 130 oral and poster presentations. Our started aim of bringing together scientists and experts from different research backgrounds was more than fulfilled. Dear Colleagues,
I am delighted to share with you the first announcement and call for submissions for our IUFRO International Conference "Between Tradition and Increasing Challenges: Future Development of Small-scale and Community Forestry in Times of Global Change". Some of you honor us by participating in the Scientific Committee, so I am sure we will have a very interesting meeting!
The conference will provide a unique opportunity to bring together researchers from all over the world to share evidence-based knowledge on small-scale and community forestry issues in Latin America, including the ecological, institutional and anthropogenic factors influencing the management and evolution of forests and forest landscapes. As traditional knowledge plays a substantial role in both small-scale and community forest ownership models, the integration of a historical dimension will provide an additional source of information in order to interpret and understand the challenges and constraints related to global change.
Please find attached the First Announcement as well as two pictures: the Paranaense Rainforest in Misiones, Argentina, and a workshop of mbya guarani craftspeople on valorization of the cultural value inherent to their production.
I look forward to promoting forest history and traditional knowledge (as well as community forestry) at this meeting!
