The 2024 Bamboo Expo [https://www.instagram.com/p/C4fkk4oN4cK/] was launched on March 16, featuring special exhibitions in five Taiwanese cities to showcase the diverse aspects of bamboo culture and industry. Additionally, the 12th World Bamboo Congress [https://www.worldbamboocongress.org] will be held in Taiwan for the first time, fromApril 18-22, aiming to further international collaboration and exchange.
Forest and Nature Conservation Agency [https://www.forest.gov.tw/EN] Director-General Lin Hua-ching (林華慶) stated in the press conference [https://en.rti.org.tw/news/view/id/2010858] that the expo marks the beginning of a government initiative approved by the Cabinet to revitalize Taiwan’s bamboo industry and promote sustainable development for the next generation.
Taiwan Bamboo Society [https://www.instagram.com/taiwanbamboosociety]Director Hsu Pei-hsien (許倍銜) told the reporter that the event’s slogan “Next Generation” aims to elevate Taiwan’s bamboo industry and culture to new heights, envisioning a future for the next generation. Hsu added that the event also echoes global sustainability issues, linking Taiwan with the world through bamboo.
National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (NTCRI) [https://www.ntcri.gov.tw/en/]Director Chen Tien-Li (陳殿禮) mentioned that the institute has been promoting Taiwan’s bamboo culture and craftsmanship for many years. He continued to say that excursions will be arranged for the distinguished guests of the congress from other countries to interact with Taiwanese bamboo artists in Nantou, visit main bamboo production areas in Taiwan, and experience how bamboo craftsmanship is integrated into daily life and cultural design.
We at the WBO are so grateful for this collaboration. We have over 200 international participants coming from over 30 countries, among another 300+ Taiwanese attending. There will be conference lectures, demonstrations, architectural tours, exhibits, vendors, bamboo cuisine, music and more. Over 100 scientific papers were submitted and selected papers will be available for free download from the WBO [https://www.worldbamboo.net] website. Globally significant invited speakers will give the keynote lectures, with academic sessions and videos scattered over 5 days.

*Online Symposium: Legacy of the Tropical Forest Foundation 19 Jan 2023*
The International Society of Tropical Foresters (ISTF) and the
International Forestry Working Group of the Society of American Foresters
(IFWG-SAF) are offering the online symposium “Legacy of the Tropical Forest
Foundation” on Friday 19 January 2023 for 2.5 hours, at 7-930am Seattle,
10am-1230pm Washington DC, 10pm-1230am Jakarta.
The Tropical Forest Foundation was active from 1990 to 2015, with
independent branches in Brazil, Indonesia, and Guyana, South America,
continuing today. The TFF was a unique forum that engaged industry,
conservation and researchers in productive dialogue about tropical
forestry. The TFF had much impact by developing techniques and
demonstration projects for low impact logging for the tropics, and the
influence of the TFF continues today.
