Dear colleagues,
next presentation organized in the frame of IUFRO 5.04.08 division will be on January 24th
2023 between 13.00 and 14.30 (CET).

The presentation is titled: State-of-Art NIR Spectroscopy for Wood Science
The speaker will be prof: Satoru Tsuchikawa from Nagoya University (JP).
Here follows a short description of the seminar.
This presentation from the Laboratory System Engineering for Biology team from Nagoya
University introduces a scientific and technical state-of-art on near infrared (NIR)
spectroscopy applied to the area of wood science and technology. The NIR technique is
useful to detect chemical, physical, mechanical and anatomical properties of wood
materials, although it was widely used when wood's characteristic cellular structure
was retained. Basic spectroscopic research for wooden material has progressed and it could
be a powerful and meaningful analytical spectroscopic tool.
Professor Dr. Satoru Tsuchikawa leads his team in researching complex spectral information
using theoretical equation, chemometrics and machine learning. He was awarded the Gerald
S. Birth Award by the Council for Near Infrared Spectroscopy in 2018, and has published
more than 400 peer-reviewed papers.
Information on the 25th International Wood Machining Seminar (IWMS-25), to be held in
Nagoya, Japan from October 4-8, 2023, will also be provided.
