The CIRAD is recruiting a Wood Science and Technology Engineer for France and Gabon
Based at CIRAD-Montpellier for 1 to 2 years and then expatriated to Gabon for 3 years (possibly renewable), you will strengthen the BioWooEB unit's expertise in the field of wood and wood-based product valorization, within the framework of sustainable and responsible tropical forest management. Better utilization of little-known and little-used species, particularly in Central Africa, will enable better use of wood without impacting species already in use and natural areas.
For producing countries, the objective is twofold: (a) to optimize the management of concessions currently being exploited within the framework of sustainable forest management; (b) to limit pressure on species that are already economically valuable.
Your activities will focus on the development of wood products and wood processing technologies for a wide range of species. These activities will be carried out in close partnership with companies in the wood processing sector.

<p>The year 2024 was a landmark for IUFRO, highlighted by the 26th IUFRO World Congress held in Stockholm, Sweden. This Congress was IUFRO's first major global in-person gathering since the pandemic, and the renewed enthusiasm for face-to-face interaction brought exceptional energy and vitality to what became the largest Congress in IUFRO's history.<br /><br />The event also marked the start of a new Board term and Presidency, which will continue through to the next IUFRO World Congress in 2029. Set to take place in Nairobi, Kenya, the first time the Congress will be hosted on the African continent. Among the first initiatives of the new Board was the introduction of dual Division leadership, aimed at enhancing gender, regional, and cultural balance across the organization.<br /><br />The five thematic pillars of the Congress also serve as the organizing framework for this Annual Report, under which IUFRO's activities throughout the year are presented. Beyond the Congress and its rich, diverse scientific program, IUFRO facilitated a total of 62 meetings in 2024 - 37 held virtually and 25 in person, including five hybrid events.<br /><br />Throughout the year, IUFRO also presented several major publications, including three volumes in the IUFRO World Series. The IUFRO Podcast series continued to thrive, with Season 2 shifting its focus from the Congress (Season 1) to the Divisions.<br /><br />A Congress year is also a time to celebrate excellence. Numerous IUFRO awards were presented in recognition of outstanding research and distinguished service. It bridges traditional forest science with cutting-edge technologies like remote sensing, LiDAR, and AI.
