The 15th Pacific Rim Bio-Based Composites Symposium will be held in Republic of Korea for the first time from October 14 to 17, 2020. The symposium is organized by The Korean Society of Wood Science and Technology (KSWST) and National Institute of Forest Science (NIFOS), together with Korea Forest Service and Korea Wood Panel Association. This conference will bring together leading scientists, researchers, and engineers from academia, government institutes and industries in the international community on bio-based composites to Korea in 2020. All scientists, researchers, industrial delegates and students from all over the world are invited to join the BIOCOMP2020 in Republic of Korea.
Since the 1st Symposium in Rotorua, New Zealand in 1992, this symposium has been held every two years at various Pacific Rim locations, such as Vancouver, Canada (1994), Kyoto, Japan (1996), Bogor, Indonesia (1998), Canberra, Australia (2000), Portland, Oregon, USA (2002), Nanjing, China (2004), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2006), Rotorua, New Zealand (2008), Alberta, Canada (2010), Shizuoka, Japan (2012), Beijing, China (2014), Conception, Chile (2016), and Makassar, Indonesia (2018), which provided a chance of tasting assorted flavors from various historical and cultural assets at each country.
Advances and progresses in science, engineering and technology for creating new lignocellulosic and biobased composite products will provide new challenges and opportunities to mitigate climate change. New and expanded uses of wood-based or bio-based composite panels as building products will certainly contribute to make the world more sustainable with low carbon dioxide emission and environmentally friendliness by replacing carbon intensive materials such as steel, metal, or petroleum-based products. This symposium will be a platform for the world to bring together scientists, researchers, engineers, industrial partners and students related to the development of new bio-based composite materials from wood and non-wood sources. BIOCOMP2020 will be an international forum for discussing and exchanging new ideas and recent progresses on the latest development and findings in bio- based composites. Furthermore, this symposium also provides opportunities in strengthening your cooperation and networking among the scientists, researchers, experts, and manufacturers from the relevant industries, government agencies, universities, and research institutes for the advance of lignocellulosic bio-based biocomposites.
