international mailing-list to connect forest health researchers interested
in public engagement (specifically including, but not limited to, citizen
science).
The purpose of the mailing-list is to connect a global network of project
leaders to share resources and ideas. Anyone working in the space between
forest health and society is welcome to join.

We have a Ph.D. graduate fellowship available to begin as soon as summer 2020 in Dartmouth’s Graduate Program in Ecology, Evolution, Ecosystems and Society (EEES). The successful candidate will design and conduct original research on biota of the Hubbard Brook Forest<https://hubbardbrook.org/> as part of the NSF-sponsored Long Term Ecological Research project. Possible study organisms include insects, bats, and other heterotrophs. Possible topic areas include phenology, population dynamics, species interactions, connections between green and brown food webs, connections between biogeochemistry and heterotrophs, and more. Requirements include ability to conceive and conduct original research within the umbrella of a larger project; enthusiasm for field biology and collaborative research; and an interest in linkages among ecology, evolution, ecosystems, and society. During the IUFRO congress in Curitiba next week, we will have a meeting to discuss future conference plans, proposals for new working parties, changes in coordinators and other important topics.
Everybody with an interest in forest health, tree pathology and entomology and our activities in this space is warmly invited.
The meeting will take place on Friday, 4 October, from 17:30 to 19:20 (i.e., 5:30 - 7:20 pm) in Room R07 - Wing 2.
This is just before the Gala Dinner and transport to the dinner venue will be available.
We used to refer to these meetings as 'Business Meetings' but at this congress it is called an 'Administrative Meeting'. Despite the name, this will be of interest to all scientists participating in working parties and their conferences in the forest health area, and we will try our best to make it 'interesting'.
Please let me know if you have any agenda items you would like to contribute.
We hope you can attend the meeting on Friday evening and look forward to seeing you.
Finally, please note, the earlier meeting on Tuesday, 1 October, from 12:00 to 12:50 in Room R03 - Wing 3, of the pathology and entomology Research Groups will not take place as it clashes with concurrent poster sessions.

Scion specialises in research, science and technology development for the forestry industry, wood products and wood-derived materials. We lead new technology development for renewables, bioproducts and energy and the establishment of a broader based bio-economy. In this role you will lead Scion's forest pathogen diagnostic service and our pathogen diagnostics, taxonomy, systematics and emerging threats research programme. The role will oversee diagnosis of fungal and oomycete pathogens in plant tissue and soil samples from major national surveillance programmes and public enquiries, with a goal to detect new incursions early. Research will be focused on identifying and quantifying emerging threats. The ideal candidate will have experience in performing identification and diagnosis of suspected fungal disorders and publishing species descriptions and disease notes. This is also an opportunity to demonstrate your organisational and planning skills.
What are we looking for?
