I'm Ana Farinha. I've just started a 2 years post-doc in the BIODIV team at INRA Bordeaux, France (Tittle: Tackling biological invasions of forest insects: from alien species invasiveness to ecosystem invasibility) . My supervisor is Hervé Jactel.
I will be working with the western conifer seed bug ( [ https://www.insectes-net.fr/punaise/leptoglossus2.htm | Leptoglossus occidentalis ] ), rearing it in the lab.
If you happen to see them hibernating and could be kind to catch them alive and sent me I would be very pleased (they usually seek warm places like the interior of homes during the wintertime). I will need to have a large colony by summertime.

At the department of Ecology at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences a post doc position is available with Dr Mats Jonsell.
The project deals with with how the species assemblage of saproxylic insects are affected by different properties of the wood with the aim of improving the recommendations for how bioenergy harvest can be done with a minimized negative effect on biodiversity.

"Biological Invasions in Forests: Trade, Ecology and Management" to be held
in Prague, Czech Republic, 14-18 September, 2020.
This is a joint meeting of IUFRO units:
7.03.12 - Alien Invasive Species and International Trade
7.03.07 - Population Dynamics of Forest Insects
8.02.04 - Ecology of Alien Invasives
The conference will focus on invasions of non-native insects, tree
pathogens, plants and other organisms in forest ecosystems. Topics
addressed will include the role of trade and travel as pathways for
invasions, the ecology and impact of non-native species in forests as well
as the management of invasions and biosecurity.
The conference will be held on the campus of the Czech University of Life
Sciences located in Prague and will include a 1-day field trip in addition
to contributed and invited scientific presentations.
Registration and submission of abstracts will begin in January.

We have a Ph.D. graduate fellowship available to begin as soon as summer 2020 in Dartmouth’s Graduate Program in Ecology, Evolution, Ecosystems and Society (EEES). The successful candidate will design and conduct original research on biota of the Hubbard Brook Forest<https://hubbardbrook.org/> as part of the NSF-sponsored Long Term Ecological Research project. Possible study organisms include insects, bats, and other heterotrophs. Possible topic areas include phenology, population dynamics, species interactions, connections between green and brown food webs, connections between biogeochemistry and heterotrophs, and more. Requirements include ability to conceive and conduct original research within the umbrella of a larger project; enthusiasm for field biology and collaborative research; and an interest in linkages among ecology, evolution, ecosystems, and society. Dear friends and colleagues,
During the IUFRO congress in Curitiba next week, we will have a meeting to discuss future conference plans, proposals for new working parties, changes in coordinators and other important topics.
Everybody with an interest in forest health, tree pathology and entomology and our activities in this space is warmly invited.
The meeting will take place on Friday, 4 October, from 17:30 to 19:20 (i.e., 5:30 - 7:20 pm) in Room R07 - Wing 2.
This is just before the Gala Dinner and transport to the dinner venue will be available.
We used to refer to these meetings as 'Business Meetings' but at this congress it is called an 'Administrative Meeting'. Despite the name, this will be of interest to all scientists participating in working parties and their conferences in the forest health area, and we will try our best to make it 'interesting'.
Please let me know if you have any agenda items you would like to contribute.
We hope you can attend the meeting on Friday evening and look forward to seeing you.
Finally, please note, the earlier meeting on Tuesday, 1 October, from 12:00 to 12:50 in Room R03 - Wing 3, of the pathology and entomology Research Groups will not take place as it clashes with concurrent poster sessions.
