Hello forest entomology colleagues,
We are recruiting for a two-year postdoc position at the University of
California Davis (USA). The postdoc will be co-advised by Mike Springborn,
and Andrew Liebhold of the U.S. Forest Service (USFS). The position is part
of a USFS-funded initiative on “Global Socioeconomic Drivers of Insect
Invasions”. The postdoc will work closely with an interdisciplinary working
group of economists, ecologists and entomologists collaborating in the
analysis of historical insect establishments worldwide in relation to
economic and biogeographic factors. The working group is sponsored by the
National Socio-Environmental Synthesis Center (SESYNC) located in
Annapolis, MD. The central goal of this project is to explore the
socioeconomic drivers of historical insect invasions around the world to
better understand the pathways by which species have been transported and
the forces responsible for these invasions.
A full description of the position and how to apply can be found at
http://bit.do/springborn_post_doc. Review of applicants will begin
September 21, 2018 and continue until the position is filled. The
preferred start date is fall of 2018 or as soon as possible; the exact
start date is flexible.
Please share with all who might have interest.
Sincerely,
Mike Springborn Sandy Liebhold

Dear Colleagues,
Preparations for the PREPSYS conference in Vienna (1-4 October, 2018) are proceeding well and we have filled the oral presentation programme for the meeting (copy of draft programme is attached).
There is still room at the BFW venue and would urge potential participants to register soon in order to be sure of attending. We are also very keen to have poster presentations which will be available for the whole conference and featured in a mixer session to enable the presenters to describe their work and discuss the findings. Details for registration and submission of posters are in the attached circular; essentially, please provide a title and short abstract along with your registration details by 14 September.
We look forward to a stimulating conference and to welcoming you to the beautiful city of Vienna.
Hugh Evans, Mariella Marzano and Gernot Hoch
