Dear colleagues,
Following our session at the 25th IUFRO World Congress, we have launched an
international mailing-list to connect forest health researchers interested
in public engagement (specifically including, but not limited to, citizen
science).
The purpose of the mailing-list is to connect a global network of project
leaders to share resources and ideas. Anyone working in the space between
forest health and society is welcome to join.
You can join by visiting https://groups.io/g/ForestHealthCitSci or by
emailing the address below with a blank message. Note that you* do not*
need a groups.io account to subscribe. You can also indicate whether you
want to receive email digests or individual emails.
- Post: ForestHealthCitSci(a)groups.io
- Subscribe: ForestHealthCitSci+subscribe(a)groups.io
- Unsubscribe: ForestHealthCitSci+unsubscribe(a)groups.io
- Group Owner: ForestHealthCitSci+owner(a)groups.io
- Help: ForestHealthCitSci+help(a)groups.io
We hope project leaders will use the network to:
- share resources and opportunities (guides, publications, data, grant
opportunities, jobs, post-grad positions, etc.).
- organize events (conference sessions, webinars, working groups, etc.)
- collaborate on writing (special issues, commentaries, responses to
opinions, popular writing, etc).
- provide/seek ideas and guidance in project development and achievement
(project design, recruitment, engagement, analyses, training, etc).
- and more (anything relevant to public engagement and/or forest health).
Thank you for your time and attention.

Hi FORENT and FORPATH,
We have a Ph.D. graduate fellowship available to begin as soon as summer 2020 in Dartmouth’s Graduate Program in Ecology, Evolution, Ecosystems and Society (EEES). The successful candidate will design and conduct original research on biota of the Hubbard Brook Forest<https://hubbardbrook.org/> as part of the NSF-sponsored Long Term Ecological Research project. Possible study organisms include insects, bats, and other heterotrophs. Possible topic areas include phenology, population dynamics, species interactions, connections between green and brown food webs, connections between biogeochemistry and heterotrophs, and more. Requirements include ability to conceive and conduct original research within the umbrella of a larger project; enthusiasm for field biology and collaborative research; and an interest in linkages among ecology, evolution, ecosystems, and society. The EEES Graduate Program at Dartmouth College<https://sites.dartmouth.edu/EEES/> is top tier in terms of intellectual environment, support for graduate students, and success of alumni. To initiate an application, email a CV and statement of interest to Hannah ter Hofstede<https://biology.dartmouth.edu/people/hannah-ter-hofstede> and Matt Ayres<http://www.dartmouth.edu/~mpayres/>. Applications should be completed by 1 December 2019 using the online application portal<https://sites.dartmouth.edu/EEES/eees-guidelines/for-prospective-students>. International applications are welcome. Please forward this to anyone who might be interested.

Dear friends and colleagues,
During the IUFRO congress in Curitiba next week, we will have a meeting to discuss future conference plans, proposals for new working parties, changes in coordinators and other important topics.
Everybody with an interest in forest health, tree pathology and entomology and our activities in this space is warmly invited.
The meeting will take place on Friday, 4 October, from 17:30 to 19:20 (i.e., 5:30 - 7:20 pm) in Room R07 - Wing 2.
This is just before the Gala Dinner and transport to the dinner venue will be available.
We used to refer to these meetings as 'Business Meetings' but at this congress it is called an 'Administrative Meeting'. Despite the name, this will be of interest to all scientists participating in working parties and their conferences in the forest health area, and we will try our best to make it 'interesting'.
Please let me know if you have any agenda items you would like to contribute.
We hope you can attend the meeting on Friday evening and look forward to seeing you.
Finally, please note, the earlier meeting on Tuesday, 1 October, from 12:00 to 12:50 in Room R03 - Wing 3, of the pathology and entomology Research Groups will not take place as it clashes with concurrent poster sessions.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Kind regards
Ecki Brockerhoff

Dear Colleagues,
I am happy to share the new website for the Tree Resistance Advocacy Group (TRAG): https://trag.osu.edu <https://trag.osu.edu/>.
For those not familiar with TRAG, information on our group can be found on the homepage. You will also find a list of current signatories and endorsers, and a place for you to become a signatory (https://trag.osu.edu/become-signatory <https://trag.osu.edu/become-signatory>), if interested. Our intention is to use the strength of hopefully, many, worldwide signatories to demonstrate relevance and engage government and other agencies in an effort to promote our vision, described in our one page declaration (attached; link also embedded in the home page).
If you have any ideas, events, or news that would fit in the spirit of the effort, please let me know and I will add them to the site.
On a different note, please consider submitting your manuscripts to section, ‘Pests, Pathogens and Invasions’ within Frontiers in Forests and Global Change. Kimberly Wallin (U. Vermont and USDA Forest Service) and I are the Specialty Chief Editors: https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/forests-and-global-change/sections/pes… <https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/forests-and-global-change/sections/pes…>. We are particularly interested in ideas and volunteers for special issues. We look forward to your submissions!
