Dear Sheila,
I am a physiologist working in woody plant somatic embryogenesis and other vegetative
propagation technologies. I will be very happy to participate in everything you can
consider me useful.

Sir,I am interested to join your group for this challenging task.I am enclosing my CV for
your consideration. If you find it considerable, kindly let me know so as to move forward
to joining with you

allI also thank Sheila for the nice idea. My group is willing to participate mostly in 3
fields if you consider relevant - C santos and Sonia Silva - Plant/Forest species analysis
(ploidy, DNA, cell cycle Dynamics, clastogenicity, etc) by flow cytometry - C Santos-
Forest species facing emerging challenges - climate changes- impact in carbon metabolismo
and oxidative stress (from gene expression to plant performance (species as: Quercus
suber, Eucalyptus, Melia, Olive, etc)- Dr C Santos and Celeste Dias - Forest species
metabolomics (currently we are developing metabolomic approaches for Eucalyptus,
Pinus, Moringa and Melea, etc species)
Our group moved from University of Aveiro to University of Porto, so this is my new email:

Subject: Re: [IUFRO Div 2] On developing a basic online course for tropical forest
genetics Dear Sheila;
I think it is a great idea to create this basic course in forest genetics (and forest
genetic resources) focused on tropical regions. I am interested in collaborating towards
this goal. Last year, I got involved in a similar course, oriented towards the use and
conservation of forest genetic resources, in collaboration with Maarten Van Zonneveld
from Bioversity International, which was was offered at BICU University in Nicaragua.
Please let me know how can I get involved.
Best regards,
Jesús Vargas

Asunto: [IUFRO Div 2] On developing a basic online course for tropical forest
genetics Dear IUFRO Physiology and Genetics Division 2:
I am thinking about preparing a basic forest genetics course for the forest engineering
program at the Technical Institute of the Zona Maya in Chetumal, Quintana Roo. It could be
part of larger effort to establish an online course available to any interested person,
perhaps available in multiple languages (English, Spanish, French). The course materials
might be used for a local course, or for review. This sort of material is best given in a
face-to-face class, but I think it would help a local instructor to have such materials
available.
I believe is a big need for this sort of course for many tropical areas. I am wondering if
anyone would be interested helping to construct this course? Credit would be given to all
participants.
Thanks,Sheila Ward
