Our main objective is to foster the development and practical outcomes of vegetative propagation (bio)technologies for conservation, breeding/selection and efficient, cost-effective deployment of resilient, productive tree /woody plant varieties.
During our last Conference in La Plata (September 2016, https://www.iufro.org/science/divisions/division-2/20000/20900/20902/public…), the importance of plantation forestry was highlighted as forests are becoming increasingly fragmented and vulnerable in the context of both anthropic- and climate related pressure. Flexible and popular, low-cost vegetative propagation methods are considered critical and well-suited (especially somatic embryogenesis) for both sustainable plantation forestry and conservation of genetic resources. Application-oriented research efforts in close collaboration with breeders may allow the careful selection and cost-effective, rapid deployment (and turn-over) of elite varieties expressing natural or induced adaptation response to environmental stress.
The main topics of the conference therefore include physiological, biochemical, molecular and (epi)genetic aspects of somatic embryogenesis and other cloning technologies, feedback from field trials and their application in tree breeding as well as industrial production of varieties. Anyway, contributions on complementary issues are welcome (e.g. conservation, genetic transformation) including social and regulatory aspects related with clonal trees.
Since inception at the initiative of Yill Sung Park (2008), our Working Party had already 4 successful conferences: Suwon2010 (Korea), Brno2012 (Czech Republic), Vitoria2014 (Spain) and La Plata2016 (Argentina). We are expecting strong participation for Coimbra2018 as well, and we have the pleasure to invite all colleagues interested by the vegetative propagation of trees to contribute to the scientific program and discussions.

v We strongly encourage young scientists to attend the Conference and make oral or poster presentations. Following Vitoria2014 and LaPlata2016 we are keen to announce our third student’s awarding scientific competition. The related information is available at our Conference Website. Deadline for applicants: June 15th.

The members of the Task Force "Forest Adaptation and Restoration under
Global Change" of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations
(IUFRO) are conducting a survey to gain data and insights for developing
best practice approaches for forest adaptation and restoration under global
change. This survey relies on the knowledge of experts/professionals from
forestry and related fields and their information about actual examples of
Adaptive Measures in Forestry and Forest Restoration.
The collected data will contribute valuable information to a study of the
local and regional experiences with Adaptive Forest Management (AFM) and
Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) under climate- and societal change with
the aim to increase the adaptive capacity of forests and forest landscapes
with regards to those changes.
If you are working or have experience in this field, please participate in
this survey. You can choose among 13 languages. It will take approximately

2019 IUFRO World Congress Awards - Reminder: Nominate Your Candidates Now!
For the upcoming IUFRO World Congress 2019 in Curitiba, Brazil, there will
again be an opportunity to honor special scientific performances and
achievements with selected IUFRO Awards. There are still good chances for
your candidates to be among the award winners, and to receive a ticket to
travel to Curitiba and be given the opportunity to present the award winning
work to the Congress participants.
Therefore, choose among the Scientific Achievement Award (SAA), Outstanding
Doctoral Research Award (ODRA) and the IUFRO Student Award (ISA) and make
your nominations soon. Note that you should only nominate candidates from
IUFRO Member Organizations! No self-nominations are accepted! The deadline

Scientific Achievement Award (SAA)
Up to 10 awards to recognize distinguished individual scientific
achievements within the fields of research covered by IUFRO. Criteria for
judgment are: dissemination of results, implementation of knowledge, methods
or techniques in practical forestry and skilled research management (success
in publications, meetings, funding, etc. in a larger group than the
individual) and involvement in IUFRO activities.
Outstanding Doctoral Research Award (ODRA)
One award per IUFRO Division to recognize outstanding individual scientific
achievements among young Doctoral researchers and to encourage further work
within the fields of research covered by the Union.
IUFRO Student Award for Excellence in Forest Science (ISA)
Up to three awards to recognize outstanding individual achievements
related to the main theme and sub-themes of the IUFRO World Congress made by
Master's degree students (or equivalent), and to encourage their further
work within the fields of research covered by the Union. Nominations can be
made through IUFRO Members and through the International Forestry Students'
Association (IFSA) via the IFSA Secretariat/Liaison Officer.

To encourage public dissemination of high quality research and to recognize

A Post-Doctoral position is opened to develop a project about "enabling scale-up of somatic embryogenesis plant production by physiological analysis of embryos processed in bioreactors and the R&D SE System for harvest". This is a friendly reminder of the final deadlines for participating in our upcoming IUFRO 2.09.02 Conference “Clonal Trees in the Bioeconomy Age” to be held in Coimbra (Portugal) during September 10-15, 2018:
June 22 (in just 2 weeks) for both abstract submission and application to IUFRO travel grants available to forest scientists from economically disadvantaged countries.
One weeks remaining (June 15) to participate in the 3rd IUFRO 2.09.02 Student’s Scientific Awarding Competition!

Our main objective is to foster the development and practical outcomes of vegetative propagation (bio)technologies for conservation, breeding/selection and efficient, cost-effective deployment of resilient, productive tree /woody plant varieties.
During our last Conference in La Plata (September 2016, https://www.iufro.org/science/divisions/division-2/20000/20900/20902/public…), the importance of plantation forestry was highlighted as forests are becoming increasingly fragmented and vulnerable in the context of both anthropic- and climate related pressure. Flexible and popular, low-cost vegetative propagation methods are considered critical and well-suited (especially somatic embryogenesis) for both sustainable plantation forestry and conservation of genetic resources. Application-oriented research efforts in close collaboration with breeders may allow the careful selection and cost-effective, rapid deployment (and turn-over) of elite varieties expressing natural or induced adaptation response to environmental stress.
The main topics of the conference therefore include physiological, biochemical, molecular and (epi)genetic aspects of somatic embryogenesis and other cloning technologies, feedback from field trials and their application in tree breeding as well as industrial production of varieties. Anyway, contributions on complementary issues are welcome (e.g. conservation, genetic transformation) including social and regulatory aspects related with clonal trees.
Since inception at the initiative of Yill Sung Park (2008), our Working Party had already 4 successful conferences: Suwon2010 (Korea), Brno2012 (Czech Republic), Vitoria2014 (Spain) and La Plata2016 (Argentina). We are expecting strong participation for Coimbra2018 as well, and we have the pleasure to invite all colleagues interested by the vegetative propagation of trees to contribute to the scientific program and discussions.

v Important dates to remember are June 22nd (abstract submission) and July 7th (registration at reduced fee). As for previous IUFRO 2.09.02 international conferences we tried to keep the regular fees quite low (400 €), especially for students (250 €).
v We strongly encourage young scientists to attend the Conference and make oral or poster presentations. Following Vitoria2014 and LaPlata2016 we are keen to announce our third student’s awarding scientific competition. The related information is available at our Conference Website. Deadline for applicants: June 15th.
v Two IUFRO travel grants (Scientist Assistance Program) are also available for researchers from economically disadvantaged countries to attend the Conference. See the criteria for sponsorship and how to apply at our Conference Website. Deadline for applicants: June 22nd.
v The Executive Committee is also preparing a technical tour and several cultural and social events (gala dinner, visit to main monuments and a senerade of Fado)!
