Dear Colleagues:
_____
Survey for restoration practitioners:
Seed and seedling sources in forest and landscape restoration
Meeting global and national commitments for forest and landscape restoration requires large amounts of tree seed and seedlings, either through planting or natural dispersal and recruitment.
Asia Pacific Forest Genetic Resources Programme (APFORGEN), hosted by APAFRI, is conducting a global survey about the availability of seed and seedlings for forest and landscape restoration, in collaboration with Bioversity International and the regional forest genetic resources programmes in Latin America (LAFORGEN) and Sub-Saharan Africa (SAFORGEN).
If you have been involved in forest and landscape restoration projects, we would much appreciate if you could share your experiences with us.
Click here to start the survey : <https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/seeds_for_restoration> https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/seeds_for_restoration
The results of the survey will be used to identify action needs and recommendations for countries and the international community on how to improve supply of tree seeds and seedlings, in order to help meet global and national restoration targets.
Thank you for your participation!
Regards,
Ms. Syuqiyah

Subject: Cost Action FP1202 on Marginal Populations FGR. Call for a Training School on " Altitude Marginal populations, " Forest genetic resources of marginal populations of forest trees", 30.08.2015-4.09.2015, Pieve Tesino (Trento, Italy).
Cost Action FP1202 MaP FGR “Strengthening conservation: a key issue for adaptation of marginal/peripheral populations of forest trees to climate change in Europe (MaP-FGR)”, is organizing a 2015 Training School. This Training School is especially focused on forest genetic resources of marginal and peripheral populations of forest trees at high elevation edge and on how they are evolving and adapting to the effects of current isotherm shift.
Lectures will focus on case studies on forest species at high elevation edge, presenting methodology and results obtained by researchers working in research institutions participating in the Cost Action FP1202 MaP-FGR and invited experts.
The training school aims to provide intensive training on the adaptation and evolution of MaP populations of forest trees at high elevation edge of species distribution, at widening the knowledge of the Action activities and sharing expertise between trainers and trainees.
Only candidate Trainees from COST countries and NCC Countries, or related to Cost non European Countries can apply.
Title: Forest genetic resources of marginal populations of forest trees at high elevation edge
Date: 31 August 2015 - 4 September 2015
Co-organized with the Alpine Study Centre (University of Tuscia, Italy)
Venue: Alpine Study Centre, Pieve Tesino (Italy)
Deadline for submission is July 22, 2015

Betreff: International Workshop on Forest Science Publishing (IUFRO WP 9.01.06)
International Workshop on Forest Science Publishing
IUFRO WP 9.01.06
Helsinki, Finland, 14 - 16 October 2015
Dear Colleague,
The International Workshop on Forest Science Publishing will be the first activity of the new Working Party 9.01.06 of IUFRO. The initiative to establish the Working Party was made in the IUFRO World Congress in Salt Lake City, USA, in October 2014. The aim of the working party is to provide a forum for discussions, training, exchange of ideas, and development of editorial practices of journals dealing with forests, wood science, and related research. The Working Party and its first meeting are expected to be of special interest to the editors, editorial board members, and reviewers of peer-reviewed forest science journals for discussing timely issues on scientific publishing.
Based on feedback from Working Party members, the first workshop will emphasise peer-review and open access/open data issues yet contributions on any issue relevant to forest science publishing are welcome. The workshop will be composed of keynote talks, voluntary oral and poster presentations, and working groups. The working groups will formulate the activities of the Working Party until the next IUFRO World Congress in 2019.
The workshop website is www.metla.fi/fsp2015/index.htm and we invite you to submit abstracts and register through the website. The abstract submission will be open through 15 August 2015. Registration at the lower fee 380 € will be open through 9 September 2015. Thereafter the registration fee will increase to late level 460 €. Abstract submission will redirect you to the Open Journal System of the Finnish Society of Forest Science and the Natural Resources Institute Finland.
We ask you to read the Author Guidelines before submitting an abstract. Selected presentations will be published as full articles in a special issue of Silva Fennica (www.silvafennica.fi <http://www.silvafennica.fi/> ).
We hope that you find all the relevant information on the workshop in these websites. If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact chair of the organising committee, Pekka Nygren (contact details below).
On behalf of the Organising Committee of the Workshop and the Workshop host, The Finnish Society of Forest Science, I wish you welcome to Helsinki next October!
