Dear Colleagues, Non-wood forest products (NWFPs) are defined as all tangible plant and animal products, other than wood, derived from forests. These products generally include edible plant and animal products such as mushrooms, honey and meat, medicinal and aromatic products, fodder and other raw plant and animal materials. In recent years, domestic and international demand for these NWFPs is increasing and forestry sector is gaining a new awareness for the importance of NWFPs. NWFPs not only provide versatile economical, social, cultural and ecological benefit to the general society, but also play an essential role in livelihood of local communities which rely on forests as their major source of income and survival. In some regions, NWFPs can provide more income to rural communities than wood products and other traditional timber-based forestry activities. In this respect, an international symposium on non-wood forest products will be organized in 8-10 September 2011 in Suleyman Demirel University, Isparta, to bring all the stakeholders from scientific and partitioning communities together to discuss our current knowledge of the subject.
