Scion specialises in research, science and technology development for the forestry industry, wood products and wood-derived materials. We lead new technology development for renewables, bioproducts, and energy; and the establishment of a broader based bioeconomy. We are a Crown Research Institute dedicated to forestry and is home to more than 300 science and support staff on its two main campuses in Rotorua and Christchurch. About the role: Scion have a great opportunity for a Senior Scientist in Tree Physiology to join our team based in Rotorua. This role will undertake research that directly impacts both exotic and native forestry in New Zealand, it will delve deeper into the impacts and the effects on growth, wood formation and physiology of woody species in a changing climate. Working closely with our Portfolio Leaders you will develop and lead projects while supporting the wider team to meet milestones and offer training and guidance to more junior members of the team. This role will give you an opportunity to take your career to the next level, you will work directly with industry and will have the ability to facilitate change in real time. About you: · you will have a passion for science that achieves impacts for commercial forestry and forest related sectors with overall benefits to the New Zealand environment; · be PhD qualified and/or plant physiology and/or silviculture with a physiology focus on woody plants with 5 or more years of relevant work and research experience; · have a reputation for science quality and impact in physiology preferable related to woody plant propagation within New Zealand or internationally; · you are experienced at developing and managing projects, and in overseeing research teams; · will have a great publication record; · and want to undertake and deliver science that really makes a difference!
