<ul style="list-style-type:disc;"><li>Forests are under growing pressure to meet society's needs while coping with increasingly frequent and severe climate change impacts.</li><li>Resilient forest ecosystems are therefore critical to sustaining the many benefits that forests provide. Biodiversity makes forests more resilient, helping them withstand and recover from disturbances such as droughts, storms, pests, and wildfires.</li><li>To secure a stable wood provision, it will be crucial for the forest-based sector to prioritise embedding biodiversity and climate resilience as core components of sustainable forest management.</li></ul><p>Forests are expected to deliver more than ever before, from providing renewable raw materials and storing carbon to conserving biodiversity, protecting water and soils, supporting recreation, and enhancing resilience to climate change. No single forest can maximise all these services simultaneously; there will always be trade-offs. The challenge is to manage these trade-offs wisely through science-based decision-making. <br /><br />A new study presented by TEAMING UP 4 FORESTS (TU4F), <i><strong>Productive and Biodiverse: Managing Europe's Forests for Economic and Ecological Outcomes</strong></i>, examines how forest management can support both economic and ecological goals. <i>"The study is drawing on scientific evidence from a broad range of disciplines. This evidence shows that productive forestry and biodiversity conservation are not competing goals, but complementary objectives that reinforce the long-term resilience, productivity, and societal value of forests," </i>says study chair Frank Krumm of the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL). Protecting and enhancing biodiversity is therefore not only an environmental responsibility, but also a strategic investment in the forests' future productivity and stability.<br /><br /><i>"The key transition is not only towards more diverse and climate-adapted tree species, but also towards new management approaches. Diverse, locally adapted forest management can support wood production, maintain biodiversity, and strengthen resilience to climate change. HARBIN (China) 2026; IMPORTAN INFORMATION

Dear Participants of the 7th IUFRO 2.09.02 conference in Harbin (China).
We hope you enjoyed the scientific and social programme of the conference and that you had a safe journey back. We were delighted to welcome you in Harbin, and it was more than timely to get back to major networking activity in our scientific community. We are confident that this event will contribute to foster opportunities for both formal and unformal collaborations and we look forward to seeing you again no later than at our next 8th IUFRO 2.09.02 conference to be held in Savonlinna (Finland) 2028.
I would like to share with you some information regarding the publication of the papers presented at our last IUFRO Working Party 2.09.02 meeting.
There will be two publication options:
1.-Original research papers can be submitted for publication in the Journal of Forestry Research (https://link.springer.com/journal/11676) as mentioned by Dr. Shen during the conference. These papers will be considered for publication in a special issue/volume. Please, check the instructions in the web of the journal.
2.-Abstracts and extended abstracts will be published online, as has traditionally been the case.
For the option 2, 2e will accept as usual i) extended abstracts, and updated versions of iii) short abstracts.
Deadline
To be included in the Proceedings, manuscript must be submitted in English by March 31, 2027 to pmoncalean(a)neiker.eus<mailto:pmoncalean@neiker.eus> with cc to: jcanhoto(a)uc.pt<mailto:jcanhoto@uc.pt> and Wangjh(a)caf.ac.cn<mailto:Wangjh@caf.ac.cn>. A submission receipt will be provided by Email. Please inquire if any deadline extension is needed.
Review process
Abstract and extended abstract will be checked by one member of the Editorial Committee for quality-science standard, minor editing, and compliance with the guideline for submission. Authors are solely responsible for the technical details of the paper. Extensive language editing by reviewers is excluded. It is the authors' responsibility to submit a well-written article in suitable English. We suggest careful proofread of the English before submission.

Manuscript will be accepted with reduced delay (no or minor revision) or upon reception of any necessary significant revision.

The FORESTT International Conference invites established scientists, early-career researchers, and doctoral students, as well as forestry professionals and policy experts from around the world to submit abstracts for oral presentations and poster contributions.

Expected to attract 1,000 to 1,200 participants from academia, research organizations, public institutions, the forestry sector, and civil society, the conference will showcase the latest scientific advances while fostering interdisciplinary dialogue on one of the most pressing challenges of our time.
We welcome contributions presenting original research, emerging results, methodological developments, synthesis studies, case studies, innovative applications, and perspectives for future research and practice.

The conference is organised by FORESTT, the French research programme on forest resilience, coordinated by INRAE.

Since many of the Tree Biotechnology community members in the Northern Hemisphere have been away on summer break over the past weeks, we would like to make use of this opportunity to remind everybody that registration and abstract submission are now officially open for the IUFRO Tree Biotechnology Conference 2027<https://www.treebiotech2027.org/>!

We continue the Season with the Task Force on <a href="http://url8074.news.iufro.org/ls/click?upn=u001.C6oMVBOd8j-2B22go-2BVoSNM8X…><span style="color:hsl(240,100%,50%);"><strong><u>Forest Living Labs for Sustainable Climate Adaptation (FORLIVS)</u></strong></span></a> and will hear how effective solutions start with listening, collaboration, and knowledge sharing. <br /><br />Host <i>Gerda Wolfrum</i> from IUFRO Headquarters and co-host <strong>Ritikaa Gupta</strong><i>, </i>a forest communication consultant based in Italy<i> </i>and IUFRO Communications Working Party Deputy Coordinator,<i> </i>spoke with Task Force co-leads <strong>Claire Depardieu</strong>, Tree Physiologist Research Scientist at the Atlantic Forestry Centre, Natural Resources Canada, and <strong>Maria Nijnik</strong>, Principal Scientist at the Social, Economic and Geographical Sciences Department of the James Hutton Institute, United Kingdom.<br /><br />Addressing climate change requires bringing together multiple forms of knowledge and expertise. Forest living labs are collaborative, long-term research platforms where scientists, forest managers, landowners, indigenous communities, policymakers, industry partners, and other stakeholders, work together to better understand and address the challenges facing forests such as climate change. <br /><br /><strong>Claire Depardieu</strong> underlined, <i>"Forest living labs are not only platforms for knowledge exchange. They are spaces where solutions are co-designed, tested, and improved through continuous collaboration."</i><br /><br /><strong>Maria Nijnik, </strong>who also coordinates the IUFRO Working Party on <a href="http://url8074.news.iufro.org/ls/click?upn=u001.C6oMVBOd8j-2B22go-2BVoSNM3E…><span style="color:hsl(240,100%,50%);"><u>Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship</u></span></a> explained, <i>"The benefits of living labs are gained largely from realizing social innovations defined as the reconfiguration of social practices in response to societal challenges including climate change." </i>Primary benefits are associated with strengthening the resilience of forest social ecological systems. <br /><br />The <a href="http://url8074.news.iufro.org/ls/click?upn=u001.C6oMVBOd8j-2B22go-2BVoSNM8X…><span style="color:hsl(240,100%,50%);"><u>FORLIVS webinar series</u></span></a> has shown that although many regions in the world are facing common challenges related to climate change, priorities and approaches can be very different depending on local realities. While most living lab approaches in Canada, for example, are currently focused on forest ecosystems, sustainable forest management and climate adaptation in both natural and managed forests, in many regions of Africa the connection between forest agriculture and local livelihoods is much stronger, and agroforestry is often the central component of climate adaptation strategies.<br /><br /><i>"One of the most important lessons from this conversation is that there is no-one-size-fits all approach.
