Dear Colleagues,
I’d like to welcome you to attend the IUFRO Tree Biotech 2024 conference,
August 4-8, in Annapolis, MD, USA.
The registration and abstraction submission deadline (June 30, 2024) is
approaching.
We have developed a preliminary conference program, with many oral
presentation slots (including a few keynote slots) selected from abstracts.
https://treebiotech.org/program
You may directly register and submit your abstract at this registration
site:
https://app.certain.com/profile/form/index.cfm?PKformID=0x3390665abcd
In addition, we also launched a focus issue at the Tree Physiology journal,
titled “Biotechnology innovations for woody perennials research and
application”. Please check out the details:

We look forward to seeing you in Annapolis, a beautiful town at the heart
of the Chesapeake Bay. The conference venue is very close to Washington DC
and three major airports (IAD, BWI, and DCA).
Best,
Yiping Qi

Dear IUFRO Division 2 community,
Our next Division 2 Administrative Meeting will take place during the IUFRO
World Congress in Stockholm, on *Thursday June 27th, Room K12, at
18:00-20:00 CEST*.
The meeting room has not full videoconference capabilities, but we will try
to set up a Zoom meeting so that colleagues on-line can follow the meeting
too.
A fist list of topics to deal with are:
1. Meet the new Co-Coordinator of the Division, Amanda de La Torre
(Northern Arizona University, USA).
2. Revamping the Physiology part of the Division (we really need help from
forest physiologists to move forward with this, volunteers are very much
appreciated!).
3. Appoint new officeholders for the WP/RG with vacants.
4. Action plan for new period (2024-2029): planned conferences and
workshops, opinion papers, integration of early-career researchers.
5. Constitution of Task Force for development of the Division 2 video.
Please, let me know about any other items for the Agenda.
See you soon, hopefully!
Santi

Dear colleagues and friends of the IUFRO Division 2,
I enclose the first announcement for a IUFRO *Worshop on Forest Genetic
Common Gardens* that will take place next November in Spain. During the
Workshop, among others, plans for establishing new common garden networks
will be discussed. The Workshop is organised in hybrid form, so that
attendance on-line in also possible. *Deadline for inscriptions is August
31st* (see inscription form in the workshop webpage).
Best regards and see many of you in Stockholm at the IUFRO World Congress!

Subject: FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT: IUFRO WP2.02.13 - Workshop on Forest Genetic
Common Gardens
To: DIANA CRISTINA BARBA EGIDO <dbarba(a)inia.csic.es>
Dear colleagues and friends,
Please see attached the first announcement for the* Workshop on Forest
Genetic Common Gardens *(Workshop on Forest Genetic Common Gardens
<https://www.genfored.es/workshop-on-forest-genetic-common-gardens/>), that
will take place *on November 27 to 29th**, 2024, in Madrid (Spain). *
The workshop is sponsored by* IUFRO WP 2.02.13 – Breeding and genetic
resources of Mediterranean conifers, *in collaboration with *RG 2.04.00
Genetics *and *WP 2.04.02 Breeding strategy and progeny evaluation*, as
well as the *European H2020 and Horizon Europe Projects* *OptFORESTS
*and *FORGENIUS,
*and the* Spanish Network of Genetic Tests *(*GENFORED*)*.*
*Background*
Genetic trial (or common garden) networks are an essential infrastructure
which provide experimental data to address different aspects of the
adaptation, evolution, conservation and sustainable use of forest tree
species under climate change.
However, many of the networks established in the past, had one single major
objective: the selection of best material for afforestation, with strong
biases in their choice of populations and sites.
Recently, new tools (phenotyping, genotyping, environmental modelling) have
been developed, making it necessary to revisit the analysis of existing
networks. As scientists we can provide insights for stakeholders in order
to replace and improve these networks in the light of the new scientific
and practical developments.
*Audience:*
Scientists and Managers of genetic trial networks. Short presentations and
discussions will be organized in different sessions.
*Practical information*: On-site p*articipation* is limited to 40 people,
according to order of registration. It is possible to attend on-line. We
will provide information on on-line assistance in the webpage closer to the
time of the workshop.
*Registration*: There are no registration fees. Please use the registration
form for registration (until 31th August 2024). Registration Form
