Hi Santi,
Would you mind passing this on the IUFRO and EvolTREE list serves?
Much appreciated,
Jill
Dear colleagues and friends (apologies for cross-posting)
Please see attached announcement for the first ever joint meeting between
the Western Forest Genetics Association, Southern Forest Tree Improvement
Committee, and Northern Forest Genetics Association: *Forest Genetics
2025* that
will take place *June 23-27th, 2025 in State College, Pennsylvania.*
We are thrilled to bring together forest geneticists from across the globe
to State College, Pennsylvania this spring to lead discussions on the role
of genetics in forest health, conservation, climate adaptation,
biotechnology, tree breeding, seed sourcing and seed transfer, and much,
much more. This meeting will include exciting keynote speakers across a

When: June 1 to 6, 2025
Where: Vernon, British Columbia, Canada
Registration is now open: Please visit the website<https://evoque.swoogo.com/iufro2025/begin> for more details and to register. The deadline for early bird registration is January 15, 2025.
Abstract submission: We are now accepting abstract<https://evoque.swoogo.com/iufro2025/6084000> submissions through the website. The deadline for abstract submission is December 20, 2024.
The Tree Resistance Workshops series provides an international forum to discuss the status and future plans for both tree resistance breeding programs and scientific research efforts in the field of tree resistance mechanisms against pathogens and insects. The topics of discussion will include, among others, conventional tree breeding initiatives, ecology and genetics of resistance and tree-antagonistic relationships in natural and managed tree populations, mechanisms of recognition and signaling of biotic damage and plant defensive strategies, comparative genomics, GWAS, genomic selection and other genomic initiatives looking for resistance, interactive effects of abiotic stressors with biotic resistance, the role of microbiome in resistance, and new methods, technology, and tools for resistance screening. The primary audience is those involved with operational breeding programs as well as academic researchers and extension professionals. We welcome the participation of students and early career professionals.
Become a sponsor and help make this workshop a huge success. Sponsorship money will be used to keep registration costs low. Please visit our sponsorship<https://evoque.swoogo.com/iufro2025/sponsorship> page and download the sponsorship package with details about how your organization can help and take advantage of exposure at this international event!

Subject: Invitation for Division 2 participation in new IUFRO Innovation
Task Force Proposal
To: Santiago Gonzalez-Martinez <santiago.gonzalez-martinez(a)inrae.fr>,
Amanda.de-la-torre(a)nau.edu <Amanda.de-la-torre(a)nau.edu>

Dear Santiago and Amanda,
My name is Lyndall Bull and I am the Value Added Innovation Coordinator
within the Forestry Division at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)
of the United Nations.
I am leading the development of a new IUFRO Task Force proposal entitled
“Scaling-Up Science-based Forest Sector Innovation”. IUFRO recognizes the
importance of scaling up science to support innovation across and between
disciplines – however, to date there is no innovation focused IUFRO
research division. Therefore, the proposed Task Force will focus on
facilitating the impact and effectiveness of all nine scientific divisions
of IUFRO and seeks to complement, rather than duplicate, existing efforts.
We are currently working to ensure that Task Force membership reflects a
broad spectrum of scientific expertise (including both natural and social
sciences), as well as geographical (aiming for representation from all
continents), cultural and gender diversity, and provide opportunities for
early-career scientists.
The draft core objectives of the proposed Innovation Task Force are:
1. Develop an integrated and shared understanding of innovation and its
potential, across the thematic foci of IUFRO divisions;
2. Improve education and communication about the importance of
science-based innovation in the forest sector;
3. Foster the development of global partnerships that provide
opportunities to enhance the science/policy interface to facilitate
research-based policy making in the forest sector; and
4. Encourage research and collaboration between multiple stakeholders
across all domains of the innovation typology (technological, policy,
institutional, social and financial) to provide science-based evidence that
encourages diverse approaches to innovation in the forest sector.
I am writing to you today to seek your interest in Division 2 of IUFRO
participating in the Taskforce. We would welcome your direct involvement
and/or ask if it possible for you to either forward this email to
potentially interested officeholders of your Division – or alternatively,
let us know who should be contacted.
I should be able to share the draft proposal (due by September 1) with you
and relevant Division 2 officeholders in the coming days.
Should you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.
Kind regards
Lyndall.

Dear colleagues,
We are editing a Special Issue for Evolutionary Application on "Genomic
assessment of adaptive potential of populations to environmental
challenges: applications to management and conservation". We have just
published the Call for Papers (which will be open till March 1st 2025).
Look here:
https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/page/journal/17524571/homepage/call-for-pap…
Please, if you have any potential paper that you would like to submit, let
me (or any other of the Guest Editors) know. The papers will follow
standard revision in the journal but being part of a Special Issue will
give them higher visibility.
Topics included in the Special Issue are (but not restricted to):
- Empirical studies investigating the genomic diversity or variants
within populations and their relevance to understanding responses to
environmental challenges.
- Reporting on past successful applications of genomic approaches in
conservation and management.
- Theoretical or methodological development of conceptual frameworks,
models, tools and approaches to assess adaptation and risk using genomics.
- Integrative approaches combining genomics with other data sources.
- Discussions on the incorporation of genomic data into policy
frameworks, or application of genomic data in interdisciplinary context.
- Perspectives, commentaries and opinion pieces.
All my best,
Santi
