The economic impact of IAS has been documented for relatively few species and countries in Africa. Consequently, there are major gaps in data for both the species for which estimates have been made, and countries in which no or few data have been collected. Filling these gaps is important, because this figure will be of use to policy makers to prioritise work to prevent, manage and control invasive species, and allow countries to mitigate the economic impact of IAS.
CABI (www.cabi.org<http://www.cabi.org>) is currently undertaking a project to estimate the cost of Invasive Alien Species (IAS) to Africa. We are looking for costs incurred for single species or by a sector of the economy, such as agriculture, forestry, livestock keeping or aquaculture. As well as collating more obvious costs, such as those incurred through yield loss or the costs of management, we would also like to collate less obvious costs incurred, such as reduction in recreational revenue or a reduction in the number of animals that a piece of land can sustain.
We hope that you are able to assist us with gathering information on the species of your expertise and would greatly appreciate your assistance with the survey. You can access and submit the survey using the following link:

We, the organizing committee, and the Root and stem rots WP7.02.01 at IUFRO would like to make you aware of the next meeting (the 15th Root and stem rots meeting) that will be organised in Xalapa, Mexico, 11th-15th of October 2021.
This is going to be the first time ever we have such a meeting in Mexico!
If you have any questions at this stage please contact me or Rosario. We sincerely hope that we will be able to travel as expected at the time but will keep you all updated during the year and a half to come. We expect the call for abstracts to come by the end of this year and registration to open soon thereafter.

associated limits on international travel, we have postponed the IUFRO
conference in Prague, originally scheduled for September, 2020. The new
dates for the conference are 31 May - 4 June, 2021. Individuals who have

registration or receiving a refund. Registration for the conference has
been suspended but we anticipate re-opening registration in September.

This note is just to share with you an update on the IUFRO conference,
““Biological invasions in forests: Trade, ecology and management”, 14-18
September, 2020, Prague, Czech Republic. We are closely monitoring the
COVID-19 pandemic and, in particular monitoring anticipated impacts on
international travel. At this point, we still expect that travel to Prague
will be permitted and safe by mid-September. However, we acknowledge
considerable uncertainty and are prepared to postpone the conference if
necessary. We plan to re-evaluate the situation in mid-May.

We are extending the deadline for early registration to 1 July and the date
for final registration to 15 August. We will continue to review the

We are pleased to announce the organization of a summer school in the
framework of the NFZ-forestnet (Nancy-Freiburg-Zurich) on the topic
"Emerging pests and diseases in temperate forests" which will take place
at INRAE Champenoux, near Nancy, North-East France, from 6 to 10 July,
2020. The summer school is mainly intended for PhD students, but also
young researchers, and Master's students interested in understanding the
biology and the epidemiology of emerging pests and diseases in temperate
forests, and gaining insight into the consequences for forest management.
More information and the program are available at :

participants is now open and candidate participants should register
until May 1, 2020. Registration is free, but participants will cover
their own travel and accommodation costs.
The scientific committee decided so far to maintain the summer school
despite the current Covid-19 crisis, as we hope that the situation will
be settled by then. In case the situation is still complicated for
traveling abroad, we will make our final decision whether to maintain or
to postpone it by June 1, 2020.

Following the health situation, INRAE has decided to revise the calendar
and the methods for organizing external competitive examinations for the
recruitment of engineers and technicians.
In order to guarantee equal treatment of candidates, the period for
registration for the competitions, which was initially scheduled to
close on 26 March 2020 at 5 p.m., has been extended until 12 May 2020 at
5 p.m.
In addition, the procedure for the tests is modified as follows: the
admission phase no longer includes a written test and now consists of a
single interview of eligible candidates before the Selection Board.
The tests of the competitions will take place according to a new timetable:
Eligibility meetings (study of candidates' files): from 25 May to 5 June
2020
Admission meetings (interview of candidates): from 29 June to 10 July 2020
