NFZ summer school “Emerging pests and diseases in temperate forests” - INRAE Nancy - July 6-10, 2020

Dear colleagues, We are pleased to announce the organization of a summer school in the framework of the NFZ-forestnet (Nancy-Freiburg-Zurich) on the topic "Emerging pests and diseases in temperate forests" which will take place at INRAE Champenoux, near Nancy, North-East France, from 6 to 10 July, 2020. The summer school is mainly intended for PhD students, but also young researchers, and Master's students interested in understanding the biology and the epidemiology of emerging pests and diseases in temperate forests, and gaining insight into the consequences for forest management. The registration of participants is now open and candidate participants should register until May 1, 2020. Registration is free, but participants will cover their own travel and accommodation costs. The scientific committee decided so far to maintain the summer school despite the current Covid-19 crisis, as we hope that the situation will be settled by then. In case the situation is still complicated for traveling abroad, we will make our final decision whether to maintain or to postpone it by June 1, 2020. Research scientist permanent position - "Emerging diseases in forests" - INRAE Nancy - deadline extended

Dear colleagues, Following the health situation, INRAE has decided to revise the calendar and the methods for organizing external competitive examinations for the recruitment of engineers and technicians. In order to guarantee equal treatment of candidates, the period for registration for the competitions, which was initially scheduled to close on 26 March 2020 at 5 p.m., has been extended until 12 May 2020 at 5 p.m. In addition, the procedure for the tests is modified as follows: the admission phase no longer includes a written test and now consists of a single interview of eligible candidates before the Selection Board. Latest RG 7.02 Newsletter

Dear All, I hope that everyone is keeping well. As COVID-19 moves around the world, I assume that it has affected all of you in some way. Here in Canada, the federal government has closed our labs, so I am working from home. Universities are closed, but course material is being delivered electronically so that students can finish their classes. Amongst ourselves we have already discussed how to include a virtual presence in our upcoming meetings, primarily because visa issues and travel costs affect the attendance of some and we would like to be inclusive, but the current pandemic has given us another reason to think about virtual attendance. Please stay in contact with one another and remember that all communications strengthen our network. The latest RG 7.02 newsletter is finished. It contains updates from recent working party meetings and the world congress. Invitation to IUFRO Division 7 (Forest Health) meeting to discuss future conference plans, changes in coordinators, etc.

Dear friends and colleagues, During the IUFRO congress in Curitiba next week, we will have a meeting to discuss future conference plans, proposals for new working parties, changes in coordinators and other important topics. Everybody with an interest in forest health, tree pathology and entomology and our activities in this space is warmly invited. The meeting will take place on Friday, 4 October, from 17:30 to 19:20 (i.e., 5:30 - 7:20 pm) in Room R07 - Wing 2. This is just before the Gala Dinner and transport to the dinner venue will be available. We used to refer to these meetings as 'Business Meetings' but at this congress it is called an 'Administrative Meeting'. Despite the name, this will be of interest to all scientists participating in working parties and their conferences in the forest health area, and we will try our best to make it 'interesting'. Please let me know if you have any agenda items you would like to contribute. We hope you can attend the meeting on Friday evening and look forward to seeing you. Finally, please note, the earlier meeting on Tuesday, 1 October, from 12:00 to 12:50 in Room R03 - Wing 3, of the pathology and entomology Research Groups will not take place as it clashes with concurrent poster sessions.
