Research scientist permanent position on the effect of microbiota on tree health at INRAE, Nancy, France

Dear colleagues, The Department of Tree-Microbe Interactions at the INRAE Grand Est Nancy Centre is expected to soon offer a research scientist permanent position on the effect of microbiota on tree health. This position will involve studying the role of tree microbiota in interactions between trees and forest pathogenic fungi, with the aim of contributing new knowledge on the emergence of forest diseases. If you are passionate about tree health, microbial community ecology and the study of plant microbiota, this position may be of interest to you. The Department of Tree-Microbe Interactions is a unit of around 100 people from INRAE and the University of Lorraine. It is a dynamic unit committed to scientific topics with societal implications. We have state-of-the-art equipment and international partnerships. The unit is ideally located in Champenoux, near Nancy, 1.5 hours from Paris by TGV, close to the Vosges, Alsace, Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland. A Meeting in the Heart of the Cloud Forest Set in the highlands of Veracruz, surrounded by Mexico's rare tropical montane cloud forest, Xalapa offers a unique backdrop where science and history meet for the 16th International Conference of IUFRO Working Party 7.02.01 "Root & Stem Rots". Indoors, participants will engage in focused scientific sessions on genomics and plant–pathogen interactions; systematics, taxonomy and phylogeography; ecology; population genetics; etiology and epidemiology; disease management and control; New reports in both urban and rural forests, and diagnostic methods for monitoring - addressing global forest health priorities and local cases such as the newly described Armillaria mexicana. Joint WP 7.03.13 and 7.03.16 Meeting in October in South Africa

Dear IUFRO Member: We are writing to update you on the joint IUFRO Working Party (7.03.13 "Biological control of forest insects and pathogens" and 7.03.16 "Behavioural and chemical ecology of forest insects) meeting with a focus on the intersection of Behavioural/ Chemical Ecology and Biological Control in Forest Ecosystems. This meeting will occur at the Future Africa campus, University of Pretoria (https://www.up.ac.za/future-africa) We now have firm dates for the meeting: 28-30 October, 2025 (inclusive); for abstract submission (15-June, 2025 deadline) and registration (30-June, 2025). Here you can get some additional information about the meeting, register and coordinate payment ($300 USD for regular delegates; $200 USD for students) as well as indicate your interest in a post-meeting one-day or three-day and two-night field trip. The former will include a trip to see some plantation forest pest issues and the latter will also include some tourism (e.g., trip to Kruger and game drive). You will also be able to get information about abstract submission at the website. This meeting will be a combination of traditional power-point presentations and directed discussions, with an emphasis on the latter. Discussion sessions will have experts assigned to facilitate dialogue and rapporteurs to capture ideas in real time. Ideally the notes from these discussions will form the basis of follow up activities (e.g., synthesis papers, research proposals) with interested delegates.
