Dear friends, Many of you will be at the IUFRO World Congress in Stockholm, but not me, unfortunately. I hope you are all having a good time! (OK, this is self-serving, as I am the Specialty Chief Editor, but what the heck… 😊) I would like to invite you all to consider submission of research topics or individual research papers. We are specifically interested in regionally focused research topics or articles. For example, topics and papers around pests and pathogens in Southeast Asia, or pests and pathogens in Central Africa, etcetera. Other topics of interest revolve around the issue of invasions by non-native pests and pathogens, specifically the issues of prediction of invaders and target countries/continents, and analyses of introduction pathways, including means of introduction (live plants for planting, dunnage, etc.) and predominant global trade routes. Other topics around aspects of biotech and machine learning to exploit biological and genetic data are also of high interest. I hope you will consider submitting to the journal. Cheers! It's time to register for the 2024 Southern Forest Health Work Conference, 16-18 July 2024, at the SpringHill Suites Greenville Downtown, in Greenville, South Carolina, USA! IMPORTANT!!!: Please note that this year's schedule begins the morning of Tuesday, July 16 and ends the evening of Thursday, July 18! SAVE THE DATE - 8th International Workshop on Resistance Mechanisms and Breeding in Forest Trees

Dear colleagues and friends, please see attached the first announcement for the 8th International Workshop on Resistance Mechanisms and Breeding in Forest Trees "Putting promise to practice in the face of global challenges". The workshop is sponsored by the IUFRO working parties 7.03.11 “Tree Resistance to Insects and Pathogens” and 2.02.15 “Breeding and Genetic Resources of Five-Needle Pines" and will take place on June 2 to 6, 2025, in Vernon, British Columbia. SCOPE OF THE WORKSHOP: The Tree Resistance Workshops series provides an international forum to discuss the status and future plans for both tree resistance breeding programs and scientific research efforts in the field of tree resistance mechanisms against pathogens and insects. The topics of discussion will include, among others, conventional tree breeding initiatives, ecology and genetics of resistance and tree-antagonistic relationships in natural and managed tree populations, mechanisms of recognition and signaling of biotic damage and plant defensive strategies, comparative genomics, GWAS, genomic selection and other genomic initiatives looking for resistance, interactive effects of climate change and abiotic stressors with biotic resistance, the role of microbiome in resistance, and new methods, technology, and tools for resistance screening. The primary audience is those involved with operational breeding programs as well as academic researchers and extension professionals. We welcome the participation of students and early career professionals. The 63rd annual Southern Forest Health Work Conference (SFHWC) [formerly Southern Forest Insect Work Conference] will be held 16-18 July 2024 (Tuesday - Thursday) in Greenville, South Carolina USA! We have chosen the SpringHill Suites Greenville Downtown for our meeting. Although meeting registration is not yet open, I encourage you to make your hotel reservation as soon as possible. We have a block of 80 rooms (Tuesday and Wednesday nights) and 70 rooms (Monday and Thursday nights) set aside for the group until June 24, 2024, so make your reservations by this date. Postdoc availability at Ohio State University

Dear colleagues, I am looking for a capable person to work on a postdoc in my lab on increasing capacity for early detection of fungal forest pathogens by taking advantage of the Early Detection Rapid Response (EDRR) system currently used in the USA for early detection of forest pests, as well as developing/testing new-ish active trapping spore technologies.
