Dear all, The first joint conference of the IUFRO working parties "Vascular Wilt Diseases" and “Pine Wilt Disease” (7.02.03 and 7.02.10) will be held in Athens, Greece, on May 18-22, 2026. The conference, "Will it wilt? From bark to xylem an invasion away" will include joint sessions touching on the main topics of both Working Parties including: Identification and taxonomy; Host-pathogen interactions; Epidemiology; Bark beetle symbiosis / vector biology; Breeding; Disease management and control; Chemical ecology; Genomes and bioinformatics; Population biology; Pathways of invasion; Risk assessment and surveillance; New methods of bio surveillance; Influence of Climate change on vascular pathogens and vectors. Joint WP 7.03.13 and 7.03.16 Meeting in October in South Africa

Dear IUFRO Member: We are writing to update you on the joint IUFRO Working Party (7.03.13 "Biological control of forest insects and pathogens" and 7.03.16 "Behavioural and chemical ecology of forest insects) meeting with a focus on the intersection of Behavioural/ Chemical Ecology and Biological Control in Forest Ecosystems. This meeting will occur at the Future Africa campus, University of Pretoria (https://www.up.ac.za/future-africa) We now have firm dates for the meeting: 28-30 October, 2025 (inclusive); for abstract submission (15-June, 2025 deadline) and registration (30-June, 2025). Here you can get some additional information about the meeting, register and coordinate payment ($300 USD for regular delegates; $200 USD for students) as well as indicate your interest in a post-meeting one-day or three-day and two-night field trip. The former will include a trip to see some plantation forest pest issues and the latter will also include some tourism (e.g., trip to Kruger and game drive). You will also be able to get information about abstract submission at the website. This meeting will be a combination of traditional power-point presentations and directed discussions, with an emphasis on the latter. Discussion sessions will have experts assigned to facilitate dialogue and rapporteurs to capture ideas in real time. Ideally the notes from these discussions will form the basis of follow up activities (e.g., synthesis papers, research proposals) with interested delegates. It's time to register for the 2025 Southern Forest Health Work Conference, 15-17 July 2025, at the Hyatt Regency Tulsa Downtown, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA! IMPORTANT!!!: Please note that this year's schedule begins the morning of Tuesday, July 15 and ends the evening of Thursday, July 17! The objective of the symposium is to cover the breadth of subject matter on forest invasions through a series of invited presentations and use these presentations as a jumping-off point for discussions on future research challenges. Ultimately, the goal of the symposium is to generate discussions that will lead to the development of scientific problems that will be addressed by FISC working groups. We anticipate a formal call for FISC working group proposals this summer but participation in the inaugural symposium is an opportunity for individuals that have ideas for FISC working groups to share these ideas and seek input from others. Practical Course in Chemical Ecology

If you are, please visit our webpage to learn more about a practical course in chemical ecology (https://www.africancentreofchemicalecology.com/about-1) This course will provide opportunities for young scientists and students from the Southern hemisphere to develop critical skills in chemical ecology through hands on experience in methods to advance the collection, identification, characterization and use of semiochemicals in insect pest management. This course is co-organized by the African Centre of Chemical Ecology, Asia-Pacific Association of Chemical Ecology and the Latin American Association of Chemical Ecology and supported by the International Union of Forest Research Organizations and the International Society of Chemical Ecology. To facilitate participation by students and early career professionals from the global south we are offering financial assistance to selected delegates to participate. Applications should be submitted by April 16, 2025 (see https://www.africancentreofchemicalecology.com/about-1 for instructions to apply) to ensure full consideration.
