A Meeting in the Heart of the Cloud Forest Set in the highlands of Veracruz, surrounded by Mexico's rare tropical montane cloud forest, Xalapa offers a unique backdrop where science and history meet for the 16th International Conference of IUFRO Working Party 7.02.01 "Root & Stem Rots". Indoors, participants will engage in focused scientific sessions on genomics and plant–pathogen interactions; systematics, taxonomy and phylogeography; ecology; population genetics; etiology and epidemiology; disease management and control; New reports in both urban and rural forests, and diagnostic methods for monitoring - addressing global forest health priorities and local cases such as the newly described Armillaria mexicana. Outdoors, guided excursions will lead into mist-shrouded cloud forests and pine–oak woodlands of the Veracruz highlands, where towering oaks, liquidambar, and a remarkable diversity of tree species thrive alongside vibrant epiphyte communities. These forests are not only biodiversity hotspots, but also living laboratories for studying root and stem rot dynamics, forest regeneration, and conservation under climate change. Shaped by centuries of trade, tradition, and academic pursuit, Xalapa is an important cultural center and home to the second-largest anthropology museum in Mexico, which preserves artifacts from the Olmec, Totonac, and Huastec civilizations. Joint WP 7.03.13 and 7.03.16 Meeting in October in South Africa

Dear IUFRO Member: We are writing to update you on the joint IUFRO Working Party (7.03.13 "Biological control of forest insects and pathogens" and 7.03.16 "Behavioural and chemical ecology of forest insects) meeting with a focus on the intersection of Behavioural/ Chemical Ecology and Biological Control in Forest Ecosystems. This meeting will occur at the Future Africa campus, University of Pretoria (https://www.up.ac.za/future-africa) We now have firm dates for the meeting: 28-30 October, 2025 (inclusive); for abstract submission (15-June, 2025 deadline) and registration (30-June, 2025). Here you can get some additional information about the meeting, register and coordinate payment ($300 USD for regular delegates; $200 USD for students) as well as indicate your interest in a post-meeting one-day or three-day and two-night field trip. The former will include a trip to see some plantation forest pest issues and the latter will also include some tourism (e.g., trip to Kruger and game drive). You will also be able to get information about abstract submission at the website. This meeting will be a combination of traditional power-point presentations and directed discussions, with an emphasis on the latter. Discussion sessions will have experts assigned to facilitate dialogue and rapporteurs to capture ideas in real time. Ideally the notes from these discussions will form the basis of follow up activities (e.g., synthesis papers, research proposals) with interested delegates. Invitation to remotely join Forest Invasion Synthesis Centre Prague Inaugural Symposium, 6-8 May, 2025

[image: image.png] Dear Colleagues, The Forest Invasion Synthesis Centre, Prague (FISC) at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague is pleased to invite you to the „Biological Invasions in Forest“, an Inaugural Symposium <https://forestinvasion.cz/en/r-20694-news-events/r-21107-meeting-2505> that aims to gather an interdisciplinary team of international experts to summarize the current state of scientific knowledge on biological invasions in forests. The objective of the symposium is to cover the breadth of subject matter on forest invasions through a series of invited presentations and use these presentations as a jumping-off point for discussions on future research challenges. Ultimately, the goal of the symposium is to generate discussions that will lead to the development of scientific problems that will be addressed by FISC working groups. We anticipate a formal call for FISC working group proposals this summer but participation in the inaugural symposium is an opportunity for individuals that have ideas for FISC working groups to share these ideas and seek input from others.
