  Dear Sheila,
thanks for your great initiative. I am teaching propagation of woody
plants at Hannover university and if you would need any material from me,
just let me know. In turn I would be grateful if you keep me updated. Our
research on forest plants deals with tissue culture and endophytic bacteria.
 Thank you and kind regards

Thanks for your response on the online basic forest genetics course for
tropical regions. What area would you like to be involved in? I will have
the syllabus soon to send around. I hope to put it in Moodle, and make it
 accessible to anyone.

  Dear Sheila;
I think it is a great idea to create this basic course in forest genetics
(and forest genetic resources) focused on tropical regions. I am interested
in collaborating towards this goal. Last year, I got involved in a similar
course, oriented towards the use and conservation of forest genetic
resources, in collaboration with Maarten Van Zonneveld from Bioversity
International, which was was offered at BICU University in Nicaragua.
Please let me know how can I get involved.
 Best regards,
 Jesús Vargas

*Asunto:* [IUFRO Div 2] On developing a basic online course for tropical
 forest genetics
Dear IUFRO Physiology and Genetics Division 2:
I am thinking about preparing a basic forest genetics course for the
forest engineering program at the Technical Institute of the Zona Maya in
Chetumal, Quintana Roo. It could be part of larger effort to establish an
online course available to any interested person, perhaps available in
multiple languages (English, Spanish, French). The course materials might
be used for a local course, or for review. This sort of material is best
given in a face-to-face class, but I think it would help a local instructor
 to have such materials available.
I believe is a big need for this sort of course for many tropical areas.
I am wondering if anyone would be interested helping to construct this
course? Credit would be given to all participants.
 Thanks,
 Sheila Ward
