Dear All:
It is time for preparing our Division” activity for the IUFRO 2011 Annual Report.
Please discuss this with your Deputies and send me a short write up on:
1- Meetings held during the year or planned for next year (title and location and time).
2- Publication: anything was produced from previous years meetings or this year even if it is in preparation or in press.
3- A brief summary of any outstanding events in your section.
4- A captioned photo of your meeting and/or field trips.
Thanks for your co-operation. As you know, I am not aware of what is happening in your area, so please help me to do my part.
Again, thanks and Happy Holidays,
Yousry El-Kassaby

Subject: IUFRO-FORNESSA Africa Congress
Dear IUFRO Division 2 Officeholders:
Please take a good look at the attached “1st Announcement and call of abstracts for the FIRST IUFRO-FORNESSA REGIONAL CONGRESS” and “the Congress poster” that will be held in Nairobi, Kenya (25 – 30, JUNE 2012). I strongly feel that this meeting could offer Division 2 a platform to show our latest research ideas as well as an opportunity to interact on a personal level and discuss/plan Division 2’s future directions.
It is also important to note that the IUFRO Board will also be meeting during this time, so this will provide a rare chance to interact with the Board and share our ideas. Santiago Gonzalez-Martinez and I will act as the contact people for organizing Division 2 session. So, please send this e-mail to your mailing list and encourage members participation. Kenya is a fantastic place to visit and we rarely get the chance to go to Africa.
Please let Santiago and I of your plans and if you intend to attend and contribute an oral or a poster presentation to this meeting. At this stage, we will not restrict ourselves to a particular theme and will endeavour to make it complementary to the Congress theme.
I look forward to hearing from you all and I can’t say how excited I am about this rare opportunity.
Take care,
Yousry El-Kassaby
Division 2 Coordinator
Dear all:
Case van Oosten and I have prepared the following invitation that we
want to forward to all of you.
The Poplar and Willow Genetics Working Party 2.08.04 is pleased to
announce that the Sixth International Poplar Symposium (IPS-VI) will be
organized and hosted in 2014 in Vancouver, British Columbia (B.C.), Canada.
Dates of the symposium and associated activities:
- Sunday the 13th of July 2014 (Registration) to and including Wednesday
the 16th of July 2014.
- Thursday the 17th and Friday the 18th of July 2014 - Field trip in the
Fraser Valley (east of Vancouver).
- Saturday the 19th to and including Monday the 21st or Tuesday the 22nd
of July 2014 - Post-conference Circle Tour in the interior of British
Columbia.
- During the symposium there will be a spouses program.
The proposed conference theme is based on a very relevant question:
/Domestication of Populus and Salix: How far have we come, and how far
do we still have to go?/
The meeting in Vancouver will bring us an excellent opportunity to
compare our views and assemble the "right answer." The answer will
represent the view of the people interested in the science of poplar and
willow genetics, physiology, and pathology. It****will serve as a guide
for the future of poplar and willow cultivation in the world.
Ultimately, the answer should also be a guide for the amelioration of
the environment, industries, and the standard of living of rural
communities wherever poplars and willows are cultivated.
This symposium strives to address these issues and therefore invites
researchers, practitioners, regulatory and policy experts to help define
what the challenges are and where we are going.
The Chair of the organizing committee is Cees ("Case") van Oosten, who
