Protection has an exciting role open for and experienced Forest Pathology Diagnostician.
Scion specialises in research, science and technology development for the forestry
industry, wood products and wood-derived materials. We lead new technology development for
renewables, bioproducts and energy and the establishment of a broader based bio-economy.
In this role you will lead Scion's forest pathogen diagnostic service and our pathogen
diagnostics, taxonomy, systematics and emerging threats research programme. The role will
oversee diagnosis of fungal and oomycete pathogens in plant tissue and soil samples from
major national surveillance programmes and public enquiries, with a goal to detect new
incursions early. Research will be focused on identifying and quantifying emerging
threats. The ideal candidate will have experience in performing identification and
diagnosis of suspected fungal disorders and publishing species descriptions and disease
notes. This is also an opportunity to demonstrate your organisational and planning
skills.
What are we looking for?

* Strong communication skills across all levels incorporating technical and
management
* Process and systems capability with attention to detail
* Advanced mycological and microbiological skills, complemented by molecular biology
skills.
* Someone with strong organisational and planning skills
Joining an enthusiastic Forest Protection team of over 60 people, you will play a vital
role in managing New Zealand's forest biosecurity risk.
