Our Forest Protection Team within the New Forests & Forest Science Group encompasses a
range of disciplines. Areas of research include forest pathology and entomology, weed and
pest management and biocontrol, fire and wind research, and associated activities.
We are seeking a Senior Forest Pathologist to carry out a programme of research that will
result in reduced economic impacts of forest diseases in New Zealand. The research also
includes understanding plant - pathogen interaction, disease development, the
identification and early detection of pathogens not established in New Zealand. Some time
will also be spent providing support to the forest pathology diagnostic service provided
by the Forest Protection Team. Research will be primarily focussed on diseases of Pinus
radiata. This is a senior role and the successful candidate will contribute to the ongoing
development of our research programme.
Our ideal candidate will have a PhD or equivalent degree coupled with at least 7 - 10
years research experience in plant/forest pathology, with an understanding of molecular
identification techniques. This is a full time permanent role.
