IUFRO 2012, All D5 Conference in Portugal - Second announcement
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
The next IUFRO All-Division5 Conference is to be held in Estoril, Lisbon,
July 8-13th 2012.
IUFRO, along with the Technical University of Lisbon/ ISA would like to
extend an invitation to the entire forest sector to participate in this
international event.
Forests play a vital role for rural as well as urban populations all over
the world. They are an essential natural resource providing multiple
benefits to people.
Their conservation and sustainable management are closely linked with global
issues such as food supply and environmental protection.
Scientific knowledge is needed all over the world to effectively address
these issues globally and regionally and provide the basis for political
decisions.
Close international cooperation in forest science and related disciplines is
required to enable forests to satisfy the manifold human needs in a
sustainable way.
This conference is designed to bring together researchers in forest products
and related fields from around the world. Discussion will embrace progress
and needs in research to meet rapidly increasing demands for all kinds of
forest products, while maintaining the forest as a source of such products
and a resource for social, economic and environmental benefits.

Abstracts should be submitted as soon as possible in 2011, but not later
than 28th February 2012. Abstracts received by 30th September 2011 will be
listed in the preliminary program and abstracts received by 23rd Feb listed
in the final program.

IUFRO is proud to announce its first regional Congress in Africa, to be held
in Nairobi, Kenya from 25 to 30 June 2012.
The first IUFRO regional congress in Africa will be held in partnership with
the Forestry Research Network of Sub-Saharan Africa (FORNESSA) and is
expected to bring together about 350 participants to deliberate on issues
relevant to the conservation, sustainable management and utilization of
forest and tree resources in the region.

Cirad, CIFOR and Ecofor are organizing an international conference under the
auspices of IUFRO (Research Group 1.02.00 Tropical and Subtropical
Silviculture; Research Group 3.07.00 Forest operations in the tropics;
Research Group 8.02.00 Forest Biodiversity):
Research priorities in tropical silviculture: towards new paradigms? in
Montpellier, France , 15-18 November 2011.
Participants are encouraged to submit their abstracts online at :

The conference will include 2 plenary sessions (days 1 and 2) and 6 parallel
sessions (Symposia) of two hours on day 3 to debate specific themes.

Plenary Session 1. Tropical Silviculture : State of the art
- Silviculture of Timber (6 oral presentations)
- Non Timber forest Products and other forest uses (6 oral presentations)
Plenary Session 2. Assessing and minimizing the ecological and
Socio-economical Impacts of Silviculture: lessons learned and ways forward"
- Ecological Impacts (6 presentations)
- Impact on Carbon Dynamics (6 presentations)
- Social Impacts (6 presentations)
- Economic Impacts (6 presentations)
Parallel Sessions (Symposia)
Parallel sessions are symposium of 2 hours that will include a maximum of 6
oral presentations (15 minutes) followed by a general discussion. The
specific themes of the symposia are the following:
1. Modeling forest dynamics
2. Tools for forest management and inventory
3. Silviculture for multiple-use forest management, including timbers, NTFP,
PES
4. New FSC criteria and indicators
5. Silviculture of logged over and secondary forests
6. Managing tropical production and secondary forests for biodiversity
values
In addition to abstracts for the Plenary and Parallel sessions listed above,
participants are strongly encouraged to submit, symposium proposals on
additional topics related to tropical silviculture. Proposals should be a
one page presentation of the symposium rationale and objectives with the
names of the coordinator(s) of the session as well as the list of at least
4-5 oral presentations.

Hello,
I'm looking for pictures or drawings of some Kenyan trees as a first step in
a allometry project. I've had some success searching the literature, texts,
and google images, but I haven't been able to locate anything for the
following trees:
