Dear all,
This is a reminder that the deadline for the call for symposia for the
IUFRO Conference on Biodiversity in Forest Ecosystems and Landscapes is
on August 31st 2011. Details of how to apply can be found at
http://www.ucc.ie/en/iufro2012/ .
IUFRO in association with the Irish Dept. of Agriculture, Fisheries and
Food presents the Second International Conference on Biodiversity in
Forest Ecosystems and Landscapes. 28-31 August 2012, University College
Cork, Ireland. This conference will provide an international forum for
researchers, practitioners and students to discuss the challenges of
maintaining and enhancing biodiversity in forests, and consider emerging
trends in the sustainable management of forest ecosystems and
landscapes. This conference will build on the success of the first
IUFRO International Conference on Biodiversity in Forest Ecosystems and
Landscapes which was held in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada in 2008.
The call for abstracts of oral and poster presentations will open
shortly.

Dear Colleagues,
Forest bioenergy is one of six thematic areas included in the IUFRO Strategy
2010-2014. In this context, I would like to draw your attention to the
High-level Research Conference "The Future Role of Bio-energy from Tree
Biomass in Europe" that will be held from 6 to 11 November 2011 in Vienna,
Austria.
The conference is organized by IUFRO in collaboration with the European
Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) and the European Science
Foundation (ESF), the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry,
Environment and Water Management, and the Austrian Federal Research and
Training Centre for Forests, Natural Hazards and Landscape (BFW). The new
IUFRO Task Force on Forest Bioenergy has played a key role in developing the
scientific programme of the conference.
In 2011, the International Year of the Forest, the conference will
contribute to understanding bio-energy drivers, options and impacts on
forest growing, management and production of traditional goods and services
in the future. The scientific programme will focus on
- Availability of biomass
- Biodiversity, landscape ecology and soil water quality
- Supply chain and system evaluation
- Forest biomass as feedstock for the energy and biorefinery sector
The Conference will feature lectures by invited high-level speakers, short
talks by young and early stage researchers, poster sessions and open
discussion periods as well as a forward look. You can find detailed
information about the conference at <http://www.esf.org/index.php?id=8196>
http://www.esf.org/index.php?id=8196.
You are strongly encouraged to register your participation by 1 August 2011

IUFRO 2012, All D5 Conference in Portugal - Second announcement
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
The next IUFRO All-Division5 Conference is to be held in Estoril, Lisbon,
July 8-13th 2012.
IUFRO, along with the Technical University of Lisbon/ ISA would like to
extend an invitation to the entire forest sector to participate in this
international event.
Forests play a vital role for rural as well as urban populations all over
the world. They are an essential natural resource providing multiple
benefits to people.
Their conservation and sustainable management are closely linked with global
issues such as food supply and environmental protection.
Scientific knowledge is needed all over the world to effectively address
these issues globally and regionally and provide the basis for political
decisions.
Close international cooperation in forest science and related disciplines is
required to enable forests to satisfy the manifold human needs in a
sustainable way.
This conference is designed to bring together researchers in forest products
and related fields from around the world. Discussion will embrace progress
and needs in research to meet rapidly increasing demands for all kinds of
forest products, while maintaining the forest as a source of such products
and a resource for social, economic and environmental benefits.
The major topics to be discussed are:
Wood Quality
Properties and Utilization of Plantation Woods
Physio-mechanical Properties of Wood
Energy and Chemicals from Forest Biomass
Wood-based materials and their Applications
Forest Products Marketing
Wood Processing
Non-wood Forest Products
Wood Protection
Forest Products Education
Composites and Reconstituted Products
Wood Culture
Pulp & Paper
The role of wood in a sustainable society
For further information on this upcoming event and instructions for authors,
please visit the conference website at www.iufro2012.org and complete the
form "Expression of interest" under the menu " Call for papers".
