We would like to invite you again to join the upcoming GreenRisk4ALPs Mountain Forest Conference (https://cmi.eventsair.com/greenrisk4alps/), which will be held online on June 28 and 29, 2021.
The conference is promoting risk-based protective forest management as part of an integral and ecosystem-based natural hazard risk management in the Alpine Space. We will share new insights and developed decision support tools and discuss with representatives from organizations and networks such as the Alpine Convention, EUSALP, GLOMOS, IUCN, IUFRO, PLANALP, and the Interreg Alpine Space program.
This virtual conference will be held under the auspices of the IUFRO Division 8.03.00 - Natural Hazards and Risk Management, and the IUFRO Unit 8.03.02 - Snow and Avalanches, and is free of charge.
We are looking forward to seeing many of you online!

Restoring Latin America and the Caribbean’s degraded and deforested landscapes can produce substantial financial and social benefits for rural communities, store planet-warming carbon dioxide, and protect biodiversity.
But, to protect and restore 50 million hectares of land by 2030, we need well-designed public incentives and subsidies that pay farmers, forest managers, and rural communities for safeguarding Latin America’s ecological integrity and economic productivity.

Fresh from completing the Restoration Policy Accelerator <https://connect.wri.org/e/120942/restoration-policy-accelerator/57nj79/1069…> , a WRI peer-learning program for senior government officials, policymakers will present the impact of their programs on livelihoods, biodiversity, and the climate, along with the concrete improvements that they are making.
To close the event, a panel of funders will explore how public money can leverage private investment and accelerate Latin America’s restoration movement through 2030 and beyond.

La restauración de los paisajes degradados y deforestados de América Latina y el Caribe puede generar beneficios financieros y sociales sustanciales para las comunidades rurales, almacenar el dióxido de carbono que calienta al planeta y proteger la biodiversidad.
Sin embargo, para proteger y restaurar 50 millones de hectáreas de tierra para 2030, necesitamos incentivos y subsidios públicos bien diseñados que retribuyan a los agricultores, gestores forestales y a las comunidades rurales por salvaguardar la integridad ecológica y la productividad económica de América Latina.

Para cerrar el evento, un panel de sector privado y filantrópico explorará cómo el financiadores público puede impulsar la inversión privada y acelerar el movimiento de restauración de América Latina hasta 2030 y más allá.

*Title: ***Recipes for Climate-Induced Bark Beetle-Caused Tree Mortality****
_Abstract:_ Globally, native bark beetles are contributing to increases
in tree mortality and changes in climate are playing significant roles.
Projecting future trends will be complicated by environmentally
determined, evolved traits in both host trees and insects. Ingredients
for bark beetle population success in future climates will be discussed.
_Bio:_ Barbara Bentz is a Research Entomologist with the US Forest
Service Rocky Mountain Research Station located in Logan, Utah. For 30+
years she has studied multiple aspects of bark beetle population
dynamics at multiple scales.
