The Department of Plant Sciences, University of Oxford, is offering a Wood
Professorship of Forest Science
The Wood Professorship of Forest Science is a newly established post at the
Department of Plant Sciences and its purpose is to develop a research
initiative that will generate the fundamental science necessary to underpin
evidence-based forest policy developments. This professorship provides an
exciting opportunity for an individual with outstanding academic
achievements and vision to develop a world-class research programme at the
University of Oxford. The department enjoys an internationally leading
position in research and teaching in plant sciences, with research groups
focusing on biochemistry and systems biology, cell and developmental
biology, ecology, evolution and systematics. The Professor will provide
academic leadership in Forest Science in the Department of Plant Sciences
and throughout the University. He/she is expected to contribute to promoting
the 'Trees for Tomorrow' initiative within the Plants for the 21st Century
(P21C) Institute.

I am pleased to announce that registration for the bi-annual meeting of the
IUFRO RG 7.01 "Impacts of Air Pollution and Climate Change on Forest
Ecosystems" has just been opened. The conference under a title "Biological
Reactions of Forests to Climate Change and Air Pollution" is organized in
collaboration with the North American Air Pollution Workshop, COST Action FP
0903, ENVeurope and ICP Integrated Monitoring and will be held in Kaunas,
Lithuania, on May 18-26, 2012.
Please register soon because regular registration closes on February 1,
2012.

IUFRO Second International Conference on Biodiversity in Forest
Ecosystems and Landscapes

Call for abstracts now open (closes 31st March 2012)
This conference will provide an international forum for researchers,
practitioners and students to discuss the challenges of maintaining and
enhancing biodiversity in forests, and consider emerging trends in the
sustainable management of forest ecosystems and landscapes. This
conference will build on the success of the first IUFRO International
Conference on Biodiversity in Forest Ecosystems and Landscapes which was
held in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada in 2008.
Ten symposia covering different aspects of forest biodiversity research
will be hosted at this conference as well as several open sessions for
relevant contributions that do not fall into any of the planned
