Correspondent account with Deutsche Bank AG, Frankfurt, SWIFT: DEUTDEFF

Registration: simultaneous with the payment.
Abstracts: up to 1 page, indicating whether intended talk or a poster, deadline July 1st, to be sent to rimvys.vasaitis(a)slu.se<mailto:rimvys.vasaitis@slu.se> and Cc: audrius.menkis(a)slu.se<mailto:audrius.menkis@slu.se>
Proceedings: authors of all contributions will be invited to submit manuscript to Baltic Forestry (www.balticforestry.mi.lt<http://www.balticforestry.mi.lt>), a journal with ISI impact factor (yet recent and small). All submissions will be reviewed.
Travelling by air:
- arrival: Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) flights SK2746 and SK2744 from Copenhagen, and SK2742 from Oslo (direct connections to USA / Canada and major European cities), or AirBaltic flight BT033 from Riga (direct connection to major European cities);
- departure: SAS SK2749 and SK2747 to Copenhagen, SK2743 to Oslo, and BT032 to Riga; you will arrive/depart 7 km from the hotel;
- in case of earlier arrival and/or later departure you will be charged extra at very moderate price (this might be worth as Palanga has nice beaches and unique amber museum www.pgm.lt/Gintaro_muziejus/titulinis_en.htm<http://www.pgm.lt/Gintaro_muziejus/titulinis_en.htm> part of which exhibition consists of insect/plant inclusions);
- in case you will be willing to attend another Meeting of IUFRO Working Parties 7.03.01 and 7.03.04 starting in Vilnius on September 17th (see below), you will be offered transportation to Vilnius meeting venue for symbolic price (or eventually free of charge); in such case, please book return flights from Vilnius airport, which has a broader selection of flights.
Travelling by sea:
- check http://www.dfdslisco.com/en/
- please note that even if from Kiel to Klaipeda (everyday connection) it takes about 20 hours (incl. overnight), the trip is likely to be more relaxing than the whole way driving (see below); Klaipeda port is just 30 km from the hotel;
- in case if you would like to attend Vilnius IUFRO Meeting, Palanga – Vilnius makes 350 km driving, all highway.
Driving all way:
The problem is that there is a Russian enclave between southern Lithuania and northern Poland, so you will have to drive around it, crossing the whole Poland, and there is no cross-country highway. Yet, after passing Polish – Lithuanian border there will be a highway to Palanga, about 350 km. This way could probably be recommended to our Polish colleagues.
Joint IUFRO 7.03.01 “Cone and seed insects” and 7.03.04 “Diseases and insects in forest nurseries” Working Party Meeting, Vilnius, Lithuania, 16 – 20th of September 2012.
Meeting venue and accomdation: http://www.radissonblu.com/lietuvahotel-vilnius
Preliminary schedule:
Sunday, September 16th: arrival, registration, free time (colleagues from Palanga meeting arriving on 14th- 15th, will make respective reservation; Vilnius has a nice old town, check website above);
Monday, September 17th – sessions;
Tuesday, September 18th – excursion to Dubrava Forest Enterprise: nursery, seed orchard, arboretum, etc.
Wednesday, September 19th – sessions and conference dinner;

Dear Colleagues,
Forest bioenergy is one of six thematic areas included in the IUFRO Strategy
2010-2014. In this context, I would like to draw your attention to the
High-level Research Conference "The Future Role of Bio-energy from Tree
Biomass in Europe" that will be held from 6 to 11 November 2011 in Vienna,
Austria.
The conference is organized by IUFRO in collaboration with the European
Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) and the European Science
Foundation (ESF), the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry,
Environment and Water Management, and the Austrian Federal Research and
Training Centre for Forests, Natural Hazards and Landscape (BFW). The new
IUFRO Task Force on Forest Bioenergy has played a key role in developing the
scientific programme of the conference.
In 2011, the International Year of the Forest, the conference will
contribute to understanding bio-energy drivers, options and impacts on
forest growing, management and production of traditional goods and services
in the future. The scientific programme will focus on
- Availability of biomass
- Biodiversity, landscape ecology and soil water quality
- Supply chain and system evaluation
- Forest biomass as feedstock for the energy and biorefinery sector
The Conference will feature lectures by invited high-level speakers, short
talks by young and early stage researchers, poster sessions and open
discussion periods as well as a forward look. You can find detailed
information about the conference at <http://www.esf.org/index.php?id=8196>
http://www.esf.org/index.php?id=8196.
You are strongly encouraged to register your participation by 1 August 2011
