Between Tradition and Increasing Challenges: Future Development of Small-scale and Community Forestry in Times of Global Change
Foz do Iguacu, Brazil // 26 September 2016 — 29 September 2016
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce a joint and co-hosted meeting of three IUFRO groups (3.08.00, 9.03.00 and 9.05.06) close to the border between Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay at Foz do Iguacu. The conference will provide a unique opportunity to bring together researchers from all over the world to share evidence-based knowledge on small-scale and community forestry issues in Latin America, including the ecological, institutional and anthropogenic factors influencing the management and evolution of forests and forest landscapes. As traditional knowledge plays a substantial role in both small-scale and community forest ownership models, the integration of a historical dimension will provide an additional source of information in order to interpret and understand the challenges and constraints related to global change.
Participants are encouraged to submit their abstracts for oral or poster presentation. Abstracts are due by June 15, 2016 (second call). Abstracts should not exceed 300 words and should outline the aims and contents of the presentation. The abstract submission format is available for download at the conference website: http://www.latinoamericajointiufromeeting.com/. Please send your abstract to: mgabay(a)ambiente.gob.ar and communityforestry.iufro(a)gmail.com.
Please note also that registration is now open at http://www.latinoamericajointiufromeeting.com/registration/!

Dear Colleagues,
IUFRO Division 3 will host the first Division 3 Doctoral Conference in Corvallis, Oregon, USA (August 29th - September 2nd, 2016). The purpose of this conference is to build cohort, friendship and fellowship among future research scientists in our discipline.
As most of you already know, there are not many young research scientists working in our discipline around the world. This presents a challenge to our research community today and in the future. Cohort-building and networking in an early stage of career is important, and this Conference is intended to provide just that - Connecting Knowledge and Mind! Networking and friendship will benefit the current PhD students throughout their career, and perhaps enable them to work together to solve the challenges our generation will leave behind. The Conference will be led mainly by students and provide ample opportunities of research discussion, peer mentoring, culture sharing and having great fun!
Oregon State University (OSU) will provide lodging, most meals and ground transportation for (hopefully) all student participants during the one-week Conference. Participants will need to pay their own travel expenses to Oregon. The conference flier is attached to this email, and more information is available at http://cpe.forestry.oregonstate.edu/IUFROStudentConference.
I hope you are able to send one of your own students or a student you can support to the Conference. Thank you!

Subject: IUFRO Joint International Conference - RG 3.08, RG 9.03, WP 9.05.06
Dear Colleagues,
I am delighted to share with you the first announcement and call for submissions for our IUFRO International Conference "Between Tradition and Increasing Challenges: Future Development of Small-scale and Community Forestry in Times of Global Change". Some of you honor us by participating in the Scientific Committee, so I am sure we will have a very interesting meeting!
Please find attached the First Announcement as well as two pictures: the Paranaense Rainforest in Misiones, Argentina, and a workshop of mbya guarani craftspeople on valorization of the cultural value inherent to their production.
I look forward to promoting forest history and traditional knowledge (as well as community forestry) at this meeting!
All the best,
Monica
