Conference at a Glance
This conference is occurring at the Four Seasons Hotel from September 19-21, 2016 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Over the course of the conference, twelve individual themes with over eighty speakers from across Canada and internationally will address key topics such as: new silviculture practices, logistics and transportation; adapting to steep slopes; ground based harvesting systems; forest biomass production and handling; new technology in forest management, forest roads, forest modelling and human factors and safety.
The 108th Annual General Meeting of the CIF and the 2016 Annual Meeting of COFE as well as Awards Banquets for both organizations are being hosted at this conference as well. A variety of interesting pre and post-conference tours have been planned as well. These tours include everything from a three day southern Vancouver Island pre-conference tour to a Sea-to-Sky post-conference tour exploring Howe Sound, including a trip up the Sea-to-Sky Gondola in Squamish, to name a few. For more information about the Vancouver Island pre-conference tour click here<http://canadianinstituteofforestryinstitutforestierducanada.cmail20.com/t/t…>. To learn more about all seven of the post-conference tours click here<http://canadianinstituteofforestryinstitutforestierducanada.cmail20.com/t/t…>. Make sure to register your spot on the tour of your choice on the conference website early as space is limited! To register for a conference tour click here<http://canadianinstituteofforestryinstitutforestierducanada.cmail20.com/t/t…>.
Demo International Equipment Show
Registration for the conference also includes a FREE one day pass to the Demo International Equipment Show, which runs from September 22-24 in Maple Ridge, BC. Occurring only every four years, this world class event has evolved into one of North America’s largest outdoor equipment shows! For more information about the Demo International Equipment Show click here<http://canadianinstituteofforestryinstitutforestierducanada.cmail20.com/t/t…>.
Sponsorship
Finally, as always, sponsor support for this conference is greatly appreciated as sponsorship is essential to its success. Many sponsorship opportunities for the conference are available, including student sponsorship ($500), where sponsors would receive recognition on some conference materials and during presentations. This event provides a great opportunity for sponsors to profile their businesses, products and services, while also supporting the professional fellowship within the forest industry. We would not be able to hold this event without the generosity and support of our members and we hope that your organization will associate with this major forestry event. To learn more about how you can sponsor this conference click here<http://canadianinstituteofforestryinstitutforestierducanada.cmail20.com/t/t…>.
On behalf of the Demo International 2016 technical conference partners, your participation is encouraged and we hope to see you in Vancouver this September!

Betreff: Call for papers
Dear Colleagues,
The IUFRO Units 4.04.04 'Sustainable Forest Management Scheduling' and 4.04.06 'Nature Conservation Planning' are sponsoring a Special Issue on Decision Support for Integrated Policy Analysis to be published in Forest Policy and Economics (http://www.journals.elsevier.com/forest-policy-and-economics <http://www.mdpi.com/journal/sustainability> ).
This Special Issue originates from an initiative of Working Group 2 “Forestry modelling for integrated policy analysis” of COST Action FP1207 “Orchestrating forest-related policy analysis in Europe (ORCHESTRA)". It addresses a topic that is relevant to the five themes of the IUFRO 2015-2019 Strategy and that is transversal to Divisions 3, 4, 6 and 9.
We welcome the submission of manuscripts reporting research of models, methods and/or decision support systems (DSS) that account for forest-related policy analysis at multiple levels and its application in real case studies. As currently, little information is available about decision support tools used for forest policy development, a special focus should be on the information provided by different types of decision support tools at different scales and on the benefits and limitations/challenges of the approaches presented. Particular attention should be paid to forest-related policy fields such as biodiversity, climate change, bioenergy, trade and green economy.
The deadline for manuscript submission: 30 September 2016

Sorry for any crossposting. Please disseminate this information to whomever you think might be interested.
Thank you.

Colleagues,
Division 3 Coordinator Woodam Chung has created a series of podcasts on topics relevant to Division 3.
So far, 10 episodes have been published, the lastest two on an "Interdisciplinary Approach to Forest Supply Chain Management – Graduate Research Projects at Laval University", in which five graduate students at Laval University in Canada introduce their ongoing research projects in forest supply chain management. Their innovative research takes interdisciplinary approaches and leverages the FORAC’s well-established collaboration with forest industries.
Others episodes deal with Forestry and Forest Education from Students' Perspective and Forest Operations in Mountainous Conditions.
Listen to the podcasts on http://www.iufro.org/science/divisions/division-3/30000/podcasts/!

Dear Colleagues,
It is our great pleasure to announce that the Joint International Congress entitled “SUSTAINABLE RESTORATION OF MEDITERRANEAN FORESTS - Analysis and perspective within the context of bio-based economy development under global changes” will be held in Palermo (Italy), 19 – 21 April 2017.
It is known worldwide that conservation and sustainable management of forests plays a pivotal role in the green economy of present and future generations. It is for this reason that the achievement of an improved knowledge of how to adapt forest and forests landscapes to the challenges posed by climate and social changes must become the first goal for all researchers and stakeholder active in this important sector of any national economies.
Because of Palermo latitudinal position in Sicily, the period of the year chosen for holding the congress is normally the best period of the year in terms of climate and vegetation life-time. Therefore we are sure that there will be outstanding social events, good opportunities to establish new collaborations among participants, and relaxed discussion in addition to a fabulous post-congress excursion.
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we kindly invite you to Palermo International Congress in April 2017, ITALY.
