About the Conference
The Fifth Sudden Oak Death Science Symposium (SOD 5) brings together scientific and
management communities from throughout the world working on Phytophthora ramorum and SOD.
It will provide a scientific update on the state of our knowledge about P. ramorum and its
associated diseases in forest, urban, nursery, and landscape settings. The broad scope
will foster cooperation between individuals working in various disciplines and geographic
areas, and provide current research findings for scientists, managers, regulators, and
policy makers.
Call for Papers, Case Studies, Speakers, and Posters
We are seeking abstracts (up to 1-page) of proposed papers or posters by February 17,
2012. These should be submitted via email using the format (including font size and style)
of the included MS-Word example and should clearly state if you would like to present a
paper or a poster. Abstracts should be sent to:

Symposium proceedings will be produced. Speakers are requested to provide manuscripts.
For those with research results submitted to other journal outlets, extended abstracts
will be accepted. Complete instructions for paper preparation will be sent out with
abstract acceptance notifications.
Topics
Submissions should focus on one of the following areas addressing Sudden Oak Death/P.
ramorum: biology and pathology; organisms associated with P. ramorum; ecology; economic,
social, and environmental impacts; modeling and risk assessment; restoration; management
and control strategies; monitoring; silviculture; arboriculture and urban forestry;
nursery management; policy; or other related topics.
All applicants will be notified by March 9, 2012 as to the acceptance of their
submission.
Conference Location and Information
The Fifth SOD Science Symposium will be held at the Sheraton Sonoma County
(
http://www.starwoodhotels.com/sheraton/property/overview/index.html?propert…) in
Petaluma, California from June 19-21, 2012. This conference is aimed at researchers,
natural resource and horticultural managers, regulators, policy makers, and public and
private interest groups. Conference participants are eligible for a special guest room
rate (pending availability) at the hotel. Travel expenses and registration fees are the
responsibility of the speakers. Registration materials will be available soon.
