Dear Brigitte, dear all, I attach some old/older literature on sooty bark disease (Peace 1962, Phillips & Burdekin 1982, Strouts & Winter 1998), a recent article by Thomas Cech (Forstschutz Aktuell, 2019) and guidelines from Germany regarding protective equipment for workers who are felling trees affected by Cryptostroma corticale. Control is not possible and prevention focuses on the future use of Acer pseudoplatanus (in mixture with other species, not so frequently, avoiding areas with high summer temperatures). In Germany we tend to get a big problem with Sooty bark disease in Sycamore maple trees. We noticed forest stands, where more than 50 % of the trees are dying. Since there is only little in literature I would like to ask if You could give me information about your experience. We especially need to know how to remove trees and if there is a great risk for human health. I would be happy if you could give some advice or a contact person in phytopathology.
