Dear IUFRO Division 8 colleagues,
The Working Party 8.03.02 “Snow and Avalanches,” together with colleagues from Germany,
Switzerland, Italy, Norway, the USA, and other countries, is conducting an international
survey on the governance of forests that protect against natural hazards. We are
particularly interested in how the status and management of protective forests are
embedded—or not—in laws and policies, and in the role that extreme events play in this
context.
For this purpose, we have developed a questionnaire:
https://www.soscisurvey.de/forests-riskreduction/
The goal is to gain an overview of how protective forests are managed worldwide to reduce
natural hazards and disaster risks. This overview will not only serve as a basis for
publications but also help identify research and implementation gaps for future projects.
If you have expertise on protective forest governance in your region and/or country, we
would be very grateful if you could complete the questionnaire by the end of September.
Thank you very much in advance for your contribution—we highly appreciate it!
Best regards,
Michaela Teich
(8.03.02 Coordinator)
