[IUFRO Div 8] Web services and workflows for data access and modelling - Side event on Friday at IUFRO Congress

BioVeL is an EU research project that provides automated tools for data processing in major areas of biodiversity and ecosystem research, such as ecological niche modelling, ecosystem functioning, and taxonomy. In a technology showcase on Friday, October 10th, 12:00-13:00 in Room 150C of the Salt Lake Convention Center, BioVeL will show its work in forest science. Four presentations will be made, covering 1) the main ideas of using workflows and web services in a virtual e-laboratory; 2) ecological niche modelling of the change of distribution and damage risk by the most important forest insect pests in Europe; 3) carbon modelling with Biome-BGC model to quantify and derive important ecosystem service indicator measures; and 4) open access to biodiversity and ecosystem data through the Global Biodiversity Information Facility.
