The abstract submission system is available now for the 6th IUFRO International Conference on Forests and Water in a Changing Environment, which is to be held in Beijing, Oct 20-23, 2025. The conference is one of the big events jointly organized by IUFRO Working Party 8.01.04 Water Supply and Quality and Task Force on Forest and Water. This international conference represents a continuing effort to understand the forest-water nexus in our changing environment. Previous conferences have been held in Beijing, China (2006), Raleigh, USA (2009), Fukuoka, Japan (2012), Kelowna, Canada (2015), and Valdivia, Chile (2018). We will continue the 15-year tradition of the conference, focusing on the linkages between forests, water, climate, and people in Beijing China (2025).

Notification: Call for nominations of fellows for the second global assessment of biodiversity and ecosystem services
Dear IPBES members, observers and other interested stakeholders,
The IPBES Plenary, in decision IPBES-11/1, approved the undertaking of a second global assessment of biodiversity and ecosystem services.
The overall objective of the second IPBES global assessment of biodiversity and ecosystem services (referred to hereafter as “the second global assessment”) is to assess relevant knowledge that has become available since the publication in 2019 of The Global Assessment Report on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services and to assess progress towards achieving the goals of sustainability and living in harmony with nature. The second global assessment will strengthen the science-policy interface on biodiversity and nature’s contributions to people on a range of spatial scales, from the local to the global, by providing the knowledge and the policy support tools needed for informed decision-making. The second global assessment will be delivered in 2028.
Further to the call of nominations of experts for a second global assessment (EM/2025/04<https://ipbes.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5da0fed71c7e4399fb28ab549&i…>, Governments and other relevant stakeholders are herewith invited to nominate candidates to participate in the IPBES fellowship programme for the second global assessment.
The IPBES fellowship programme, which is part of a larger capacity-building portfolio of activities, targets early-career individuals1 who wish to gain experience by participating in the work of IPBES. Selected fellows will participate in the preparation of the chapter of the assessment for which they are selected, and their contribution will be acknowledged as part of the citation for that chapter. Fellows will attend author meetings and receive training to gain an in-depth understanding of the IPBES assessment processes and the science-policy interface. Fellows will also be paired up with a mentor for the assessment period.
The assessment will be conducted in line with the procedures for IPBES deliverables set out in decision IPBES-3/3, annex I (available here<https://ipbes.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5da0fed71c7e4399fb28ab549&i…>) and based on the scoping report for the assessment (available here<https://ipbes.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5da0fed71c7e4399fb28ab549&i…>).
IPBES is seeking fellows who have experience in regional and global analyses relating to nature and nature’s contributions to people in terrestrial, inland water, coastal and marine ecosystems. They should have expertise relevant to the global assessment of biodiversity and ecosystem services in one or more disciplines within natural science, social science or humanities. IPBES is, in particular, seeking fellows with an interdisciplinary background. IPBES is also looking for fellows on Indigenous and local knowledge.
Governments and relevant stakeholders are invited to include in their nominations candidates with diverse backgrounds and expertise, and ensure gender balance in their nominations.
All nominated candidates (nominees) need to be available to attend the relevant author meetings, training workshops and induction day for fellows, with the induction day and first author meeting tentatively scheduled for end of November 2025.
All Governments and relevant organizations or institutions are encouraged to submit nominations; nominating organizations or institutions are not required to have been admitted to the Plenary of IPBES as an observer. Please help us to disseminate this call for nominations of fellows widely.
Please follow the below procedure for nomination:
* Sharing the call of nomination: All Governments and relevant organizations or institutions are invited to disseminate this call.
* Completing the application form (candidates): Interested candidates are invited to complete the application form and attach their curriculum vitae through the dedicated web portal at https://www.ipbes.net/second-global-assessment/fellows-application<https://ipbes.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5da0fed71c7e4399fb28ab549&i…> (to access this page you will need to log in with your IPBES website log in credentials. Please note that the nomination form is in English only and applications should be submitted in English, as the assessment process will be conducted in English;
* Approval and formal nomination (Governments/organizations): The nominating Government or organization (nominator) indicated by the nominee will receive an email with a link to the nomination form and will be invited to approve and submit the nominations in the web portal;
* After nomination: Nominators and nominees will receive confirmation via email once the nomination has been submitted by the nominator.
Interested early-career individuals wishing to be nominated by a Government are encouraged to contact their IPBES National Focal Point (https://www.ipbes.net/national-focal-points<https://ipbes.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5da0fed71c7e4399fb28ab549&i…>) regarding any country specific processes or deadlines and are requested to fill out their application form by 28 March 2025.
Nominators (Governments or organizations) should submit the nominations of all nominees, which they would like to support, before 6 April 2025. Early nominations ahead of this deadline are encouraged. Fellows will be selected by the management committee of the second global assessment, which includes the co-chairs of the assessment and members of the IPBES Bureau and Multidisciplinary Expert Panel.

The dialogue meeting is scheduled for 12 March 2025, 1 p.m. CET. More information will follow shortly.

IUFRO2025 - Conference “Influence of Air Pollution and Climate Change on Forest Dynamics” in Split (Croatia) on 1-5 September 2025

Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce that the international conference “Influence of Air Pollution and Climate Change on Forest Dynamics” will be held in Split (Croatia) on 1-5 September 2025 under the umbrella of the 32nd biennial conference of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations - Research Group 8.04 on “Air pollution and climate change”.
Do not miss this cornerstone of effective international collaboration in the research of air pollution and forest ecosystems.
The conference will be held in the “Hotel Park”, charming hotel of historical character built in 1921, located in the heart of the city close to the famous Bačvice Beach.
The social dinner is planned on 4th September 2025, and a full-day excursion is planned on 5th September 2025 to the Krka national park.
