Subject: Seeking Collaborators for Belmont Forum Project on Tropical Forests
Dear Dr. Luan,
The Lu Lab in the Department of Environmental Studies at New York University is applying for the Belmont Forum Collaborative Research Action (CRA) 2024 on tropical forests with our collaborators. We are actively seeking natural or social science collaborators in Brazil and other South/Central American countries.
Our project aims to quantify the ecosystem services provided by wild and planted bamboo, palm, and banana in fragmented forest landscapes (especially near human settlement or in secondary forests). We also aim to develop policy tools that can mitigate the negative ecological impacts of past deforestation and reduce the current need for deforestation by providing alternative income sources. Eligible regions in Brazil and other American countries that can apply for funding are listed in the annex comparison tool.
The pre-registration deadline is November 12, and we already have teams in the U.S. and China. We warmly welcome interested natural or social scientists, as well as local stakeholders, to join us in shaping this initiative and creating valuable outcomes for local communities. Please help us spread the word, and encourage anyone interested to contact us at az3506(a)nyu.edu soon.
Thank you very much for your assistance, and I hope you have a wonderful day!
All the best,
Aiyu

Dear Colleagues,
We have organized the session on “Advances towards more accurate forest
biodiversity indicators and monitoring” (T3.1) during the last June
IUFRO 2024 congress in Stockholm.
As an add-on to this session, we have succeeded organizing a special
issue in Forest Ecology and Management (FEM) that would gather
presentations coming from this session – as well as other papers on the
same topic (cf.
https://www.sciencedirect.com/special-issue/313868/forest-biodiversity-indi…
).
You are therefore welcome to propose manuscripts for publication in this
special issue, given they fit well with the scope of the SI. Submissions
should be done before end of January 2025. Submitted manuscripts will of
course go through the classical reviewing process of FEM. If you have
any question, do not hesitate to ask.
We thank you very much for your attention as well as to the authors who
will contribute to this special issue.
All the best,
Frédéric Gosselin, Anna Barbati, Francesco Chianucci, Marion Gosselin,
Sabina Burrascano
