Participants are encouraged to submit their abstracts online at : http://www.iufro2011-tropical-silviculture.org. Deadline for abstract submission: June 30th, 2011 The conference will include 2 plenary sessions (days 1 and 2) and 6 parallel sessions (Symposia) of two hours on day 3 to debate specific themes. Plenary Sessions Plenary Session 1. Tropical Silviculture : State of the art - Silviculture of Timber (6 oral presentations) - Non Timber forest Products and other forest uses (6 oral presentations) Plenary Session 2. Assessing and minimizing the ecological and Socio-economical Impacts of Silviculture: lessons learned and ways forward" - Ecological Impacts (6 presentations) - Impact on Carbon Dynamics (6 presentations) - Social Impacts (6 presentations) - Economic Impacts (6 presentations) Parallel Sessions (Symposia) Parallel sessions are symposium of 2 hours that will include a maximum of 6 oral presentations (15 minutes) followed by a general discussion. The specific themes of the symposia are the following: 1. Modeling forest dynamics 2. Tools for forest management and inventory 3. Silviculture for multiple-use forest management, including timbers, NTFP, PES 4. New FSC criteria and indicators 5. Silviculture of logged over and secondary forests 6. Managing tropical production and secondary forests for biodiversity values In addition to abstracts for the Plenary and Parallel sessions listed above, participants are strongly encouraged to submit, symposium proposals on additional topics related to tropical silviculture. Proposals should be a one page presentation of the symposium rationale and objectives with the names of the coordinator(s) of the session as well as the list of at least 4-5 oral presentations.
