The Global Symposium on Soil Erosion (GSER19)
The Global Symposium on Soil Erosion (GSER19) will be a high level science-policy meeting, held from 15 – 17 May 2019, at FAO HQ in Rome, Italy. This Symposium is jointly organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Global Soil Partnership (GSP), the Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils (ITPS), the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification Science-Policy Interface (UNCCD-SPI) and the Joint FAO/IAEA International Atomic Energy Agency division for Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture.

Soil erosion represents one of the most pressing environmental issues of our time, decreasing agricultural productivity, degrading crucial ecosystem functions, amplifying hydrogeological risks and, in severe cases, leading to the displacement of populations.
Starting from the latest scientific knowledge on the status of interventions and innovations related to soil erosion management and existing assessment frameworks, the Symposium will address soil erosion prevention and control for increased food security and ecosystem services.

Registration will be open until 8 May 2019. Participants will include representatives from UN organizations, member countries, academia, scientists, practitioners, policy makers, private businesses, economists, research institutes, NGOs, civil society, farmers associations, and land users. Please note that participation to the Symposium is free.

Call for extended abstract

Abstract submission
The Organizing Committee of GSER19 is currently accepting abstracts that will compete for oral and poster presentations.
The extended abstracts should be written in English, with a maximum lenght of 2000 words in Word format.
Abstracts should address one of the following Symposium themes :
THEME 1 | Use of data and assessment tools in soil erosion control
THEME 2 | Policy in action to address soil erosion
THEME 3 | The economics of soil erosion control and restoration of eroded land

Guidelines for authors
All extended abstracts must be submitted in the prescribed format ( <http://newsletters.fao.org/c/1rUduNmaB6ejdgcaLRcuOs66> Template) and emailed to GSER-19(a)fao.org <mailto:GSER-19@fao.org?subject=Call%20for%20extended%20abstracts%2F%20Your%20full%20name%2F%20Preferred%20Theme> , indicating ''Call for extended abstracts/Your full name/Preferred Theme'' in the subject line.
They will be assessed by the GSER19 Scientific Committee, which is composed of representatives from the co-organizing organizations as well as leading experts.
The deadline for abstract submission is 10 March 2019. Authors will be notified regarding their abstract submission by 31 March 2019 and details on oral and poster presentations will be provided.

Please be gently reminded that 10 January 2019, the Deadline for Abstracts
for the XXV IUFRO Congress in Curitiba, Brazil, 29 September - 5 October
2019, is coming up this Thursday!
Abstracts may address any aspect of forest research, but preference will be
given to abstracts addressing one of the Congress technical sessions.
Abstracts not associated with a technical session may be assigned to a
general poster session.

Authors are limited to a maximum of two abstracts as presenting author. All
abstracts will be reviewed for scientific rigour and relevance to Congress
themes, and may be assigned to oral or poster presentations. The Congress
will feature digital as well as static poster displays to ensure high
visibility for poster presentations.
