Managing Integrated Mechanised Harvesting and Transport Operations
Location: George, South Africa
A first-ever, all inclusive fully international forest engineering course is being offered that covers the full scope of harvesting, roads and transport activities. The course targets practitioners (forest managers/experts and contractors), researchers, academics, and staff employed by equipment manufacturers.
Participants will leave the course enriched and competent in understanding and being able to apply the principles of successfully managing the full forest engineering work cycle.
The course not only teaches all aspects of the forest engineering value chain, but also leaves the participant with a set of tools to apply in his/her work environment.

Dear friends and colleagues,
#FacesOfTheForest Photo Contest – Winning photos to be part of an exhibition at the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site during IV Mediterranean Forest Week in Barcelona.
The first edition of the #FacesOfTheForest Photo Contest, launched by the Forest Communicators Network in the Mediterranean Region and Near East (FCNMedNE), is organised in the framework of the 2015 International Day of Forests. This year’s theme is “Forests | Climate | Change”, climate change being one of the biggest challenges facing our planet while the role of our forests in mitigation needs to be more clearly understood.
The #FacesOfTheForest Photo Contest aims at highlighting the vital role of the forests in the development of forest communities. Photos should be taken in the forest in Mediterranean and Near Eastern countries and should reflect the role played by forest people and forests in general on the following topic(s): income generation; mitigation of climate change; water conservation; soil conservation; sustainable development; social equity, gender balance; women empowerment; youth development.
A selection of the best photos will be shared on the <http://www.fao.org/forestry/communication-toolkit/86425/en/> FAO website of the FCNMedNE, printed and presented in an exhibition during the IV Mediterranean Forest Week in Barcelona (17-20 March 2015).
Deadline for sending photos: 12th March 2015 at 23:59 UTC
Please find enclosed the instructions in English, French, Spanish.
Best regards,

The following themes have thus far been identified:
* Educational tools in OR/MS
* Multi Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) methods
* Fire and pest management
* Forest Decision Support Systems - construction and use
* OR/MS techniques for forest planning
* Forest operations
* Planning and control systems for the forest-based supply chains
* The forest-based sector – modeling
* The forest-based sector – challenges and policies
* Bioenergy and biorefineries
* Transportation & routing
* Forest management and biodiversity

that will be held in Rome on Tuesday 19 May 2015.
This Conference will be presenting in a single day and place the key
results of the three large projects sponsored by the EU on the subject
of energy wood supply chains for agriculture (EuroPruning Project)
forestry (INFRES Project) and dedicated plantations (Logistech
Project). These combined budget of these projects amounts to €15
million, and the projects gather many of the most prestigious European
Institutions dealing with biomass.
The conference is organised by the INFRES, LogistEC and EuroPrunning
projects, and supported by a range of Italian, European, American and
international networks and trade associations, including
