The International Journal of Forest Engineering invites manuscript submissions for a special collection entitled Timber Truck Transportation in the 21st Century<https://think.taylorandfrancis.com/special_issues/timber-truck-transportati…>. Manuscripts will be considered through December 31, 2024. The collection will consider both review articles and original research from all timber producing regions on the following topics:
Transportation costs,
Safety,
Fleet management,
Labor and workforce development,
Regulatory/policy (e.g., weight restriction on hauling, driver qualifications),

Dear Colleagues in IUFRO Divisions 3 and 4,
I am happy to share a call for abstracts from IUFRO Units 3.04.01 and 4.04.04. If you are working in the fields of wildland fires and optimization, this would be a great opportunity to share your research and network with peers.
Best regards,
Woodam

Optimization and Wildfire Conference
October 1-4 2024, Luso, Portugal
https://ow.dps.uminho.pt/
We invite the submission of abstracts for the Optimization and Wildfire Conference to be held in Luso, Portugal, from the 1st to the 4th of October.
We have the honour to have as keynote speakers three distinguished personalities of the area:
- David Martell (University of Toronto),
- Yu Wei (Colorado State University), and
- José Borges (University of Lisbon).
The conference location is in a landmark Portuguese forest (Mata do Bussaco, a managed forest since the XVII century) in the center of Portugal, a region that was tragically devastated by wildfires in 2017.
We believe the conference, with the support of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology through project O3F - An Optimization Framework to reduce Forest Fire (https://o3f.dps.uminho.pt) will result in a vision of the state-of-the-art and the identification of emergent topics in O&W, affirming the relevance and potential of Operational Research, Optimization and related areas in wildfire management.
The deadline for the submission of abstracts (max 1500 characters) is May 31st, 2024.
All the conference details are available at the website: https://ow.dps.uminho.pt.
We look forward to seeing you in Portugal.
Best regards,
Filipe Alvelos, chair
Isabel Martins, co-chair Program Committee
