First announcement: International IUFRO Conference
Units 5.01.04 and 3.04.02
WOOD QC: A Wood Quality and Supply Chain Modelling Conference, Quebec, Canada, June 2016
The 8th international conference of IUFRO Working Parties 5.01.04 and 3.02.04: ‘Modelling Wood Quality, Supply and Value Chain Networks’ will take place from 13 – 17 June 2016 in Quebec City, Canada.
Laval University will host this 8th meeting of Working Party 5.01.04 – Wood Quality Modelling, which is being held for the first time in Eastern Canada. Past meetings have taken place in Sweden (1994), South Africa (1996), France (1999), Canada (2002), New Zealand (2005), Finland (2008) and France (2013). In an effort to stimulate collaboration and knowledge transfer across IUFRO divisions, the 2016 edition will be held in conjunction with Working Party 3.04.02 – Supply Chain Management. The conference brings together scientists from around the world to share ideas and innovations in the fields of forest growth and wood quality modelling, and wood supply and value chain network optimisation. A key objective of the conference is to foster international partnerships aimed at improving data acquisition and sharing, modelling methods, model integration and the development of tools for end-users that can ultimately increase the value of the forest resource.
The organizing committee would like invite you to this upcoming event, which will take place in charming Quebec City and in the beautiful landscape of Charlevoix (details in future announcements). We invite you to think about presenting a talk or poster related to:
Conference themes:
· Building integrated model chains for predicting forest growth, wood quality and value in a changing environment
· Multi-scale modelling of wood properties: from the cell wall to end-products
· Wood supply and value chain modelling and optimisation
· Enhanced inventory methods for mapping wood quality
· Integration of genetic selection and genomics with tree and wood quality models
· Development and application of simulation tools for the forest sector
Please save the dates and distribute this announcement in your scientific network.
Another announcement will follow soon to provide a link to our upcoming web site and more detailed information about the programme, including the first call for abstract submissions. Apologies for multiple postings.
We hope to see you in Quebec City - Baie-St-Paul in June 2016!
Best regards,
Alexis Achim, head of the Organizing Committee

Betreff: International Workshop on Forest Science Publishing (IUFRO WP 9.01.06)
International Workshop on Forest Science Publishing
IUFRO WP 9.01.06
Helsinki, Finland, 14 - 16 October 2015
Dear Colleague,
The International Workshop on Forest Science Publishing will be the first activity of the new Working Party 9.01.06 of IUFRO. The initiative to establish the Working Party was made in the IUFRO World Congress in Salt Lake City, USA, in October 2014. The aim of the working party is to provide a forum for discussions, training, exchange of ideas, and development of editorial practices of journals dealing with forests, wood science, and related research. The Working Party and its first meeting are expected to be of special interest to the editors, editorial board members, and reviewers of peer-reviewed forest science journals for discussing timely issues on scientific publishing.
Based on feedback from Working Party members, the first workshop will emphasise peer-review and open access/open data issues yet contributions on any issue relevant to forest science publishing are welcome. The workshop will be composed of keynote talks, voluntary oral and poster presentations, and working groups. The working groups will formulate the activities of the Working Party until the next IUFRO World Congress in 2019.
The workshop website is www.metla.fi/fsp2015/index.htm and we invite you to submit abstracts and register through the website. The abstract submission will be open through 15 August 2015. Registration at the lower fee 380 € will be open through 9 September 2015. Thereafter the registration fee will increase to late level 460 €. Abstract submission will redirect you to the Open Journal System of the Finnish Society of Forest Science and the Natural Resources Institute Finland.
We ask you to read the Author Guidelines before submitting an abstract. Selected presentations will be published as full articles in a special issue of Silva Fennica (www.silvafennica.fi <http://www.silvafennica.fi/> ).
We hope that you find all the relevant information on the workshop in these websites. If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact chair of the organising committee, Pekka Nygren (contact details below).
On behalf of the Organising Committee of the Workshop and the Workshop host, The Finnish Society of Forest Science, I wish you welcome to Helsinki next October!
