Dear IUFRO Colleagues,
Few days to go to submit your abstract!
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS IUFRO Conference “Adaptive Management for Forested Landscapes in Transformation“, October 1-5, Posadas, Misiones, Argentina:
<http://iufro2018posadas.com/sessions/call-for-abstracts/> http://iufro2018posadas.com/sessions/call-for-abstracts/
Deadline April 30th
This conference will highlight accelerated changes imprinted in our planet within the Anthropocene. We welcome presentations and posters targeting forest changes and landscape transformation as a consequence of increasing pressures of globalization, population growth, resource scarcity and ecological degradation -the BIG challenges ahead.
Operational solutions and state of the art methods are at the centre of the conference.
Within the framework of this Conference we will focus on key topics to assess problems but also to find solutions towards a better future in forested landscapes
Call for Forums is still open:

Looking forward to original ideas on knowledge sharing!
Please spread the news in your networks!
See you all this year in Argentina!

Latsis Symposium 2018 Scaling-Up Forest Restoration
Zürich, Switzerland; 6-7 June 2018
http://latsis2018.ethz.ch/
Colleagues,
Mark your calendars for the Latsis Symposium 2018!
The Latsis Symposium 2018 will bring together leading scientists and
practitioners to address the ecological, economic, and societal challenges
for scaling-up forest restoration. The symposium is motivated by the
challenge of delivering an effective global response to two major
environmental threats, climate change and forest degradation through
restoration.
The goal of the 2-day symposium is to work towards a conceptual
understanding of the challenges and opportunities for scaling-up forest
restoration efforts to meet Bonn Challenge targets. Presentations by experts
from academia, non-governmental organisations, and the business sector will
help to frame and inform discussions on forest restoration approaches.
Registration, http://latsis2018.ethz.ch/registration/, is free of charge and
ends on 30 May 2018.

Hello Landscape Ecologists!
Please consider the following message and survey request from
colleague Kim Hall:
Circuitscape (http://www.circuitscape.org/) is a widely-used open
source software program that borrows ideas from circuit theory to
assess landscape connectivity. While the range of applications for
Circuitscape has continued to grow since it was first developed by
Brad McRae and Viral Shah over a decade ago, computational limitations
hinder its ability to solve large problems. Before Brad McRae passed
away from cancer in July 2017, he received funding from NASA’s Earth
Science Applications: Ecological Forecasting program to lead a team
with Viral, now at Julia Computing, to overhaul the software and add
functionality. Viral and several of Brad’s colleagues at The Nature
Conservancy (TNC), with help from many of Brad’s friends and
collaborators, are continuing this important work, and we need your
help! If you are a Circuitscape user, or would like to be, please
follow this survey link to learn more about this project, and provide
your input -- https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CircuitscapeUsers
Thank you! Kim Hall, The Nature Conservancy. kimberly.hall(a)tnc.org
