The response for submitting abstracts for poster and presentation sessions to the IUFRO Conference on Forests for People and the 2013 National Outdoor Recreation Conference has been gratifuying. Ninety-five abstracts have been submitted to date---some to host a larger session and some for individual presentations.
Due to the normal challenges of international communications, we have decided to extend the deadline for abstracts for the IUFRO Conference on Forests for People to January 15, 2013.
The submittal requirements and directions remain the same.

thank-you so much for you contribution to this edition of the Biennal of Cultural heritage and environment, your presence was crucial for the success and the quality of the event. For those of you interested in numbers, the entire set of events occurred throughout the city have been attended by more than 200.000 people. Considering the main themes in which the board of directors organized this edition (landscape and environment, cultural heritage, fashion and creativity), landscape and environment have definitely received most of the attention, with more than 2100 people attending , while the exhibition on historical rural landscape has been visited by more than 4000 people.
I hope you enjoyed joining "Florens" and living "Florence" during your visit

Si è conclusa la seconda edizione di Florens, Biennale Internazionale dei Beni Culturali e Ambientali, con un bilancio estremamente positivo che ha registrato oltre 10.000 presenze ai convegni, lectio magistralis, tavole rotonde e al Forum Internazionale: un ampio pubblico di studiosi, addetti ai lavori, ma anche studenti e cittadini che hanno partecipato con grande interesse.
La città di Firenze, per nove giornate, si è trasformata in una vera e propria capitale dei beni culturali e ambientali, con eventi spettacolari che ne hanno animato gli spazi pubblici come l’ostensione dei tre crocifissi di Michelangelo, Brunelleschi e Donatello nel Battistero, che ha visto oltre 30.000 presenze, la monumentale croce di Mimmo Paladino in Piazza Santa Croce ed Il giardino degli ulivi in Piazza San Giovanni, che hanno registrato oltre 200.000 visitatori nelle due piazze cittadine, la mostra fotografica sul paesaggio nel cortile di Michelozzo di Palazzo Vecchio che ne ha visti più di 35.000, così come hanno registrato un grande successo anche tutti gli eventi nel programma di Florens Off.

Esta problemática fue analizada en el taller sobre “Los principales vacíos normativos en materia forestal para la mitigación y adaptación al cambio climático”, organizado por la Comisión Ambiental y en coordinación con el Cuerpo de Bomberos de Costa Rica.
El coordinador de la Comisión Ambiental del Colegio, Carlos Bolaños señaló que Costa Rica tiene que hacer ajustes a su legislación para mitigar el cambio climático. La legislación actual no está diseñada para afrontar los cambios. Prueba de esto es el incremento de los Incendios forestales debido que las zonas de calor están aumentando y hay una variación en el patrón de lluvias, además no hay una preparación de la población que prevenga los incendios forestales.
En la población todavía prevalece mucha conducta irresponsable, lo que debe llevar a tomar la decisión de tener que prevenir en forma sancionatoria.
El Colegio de Abogados colabora con el cuerpo de bomberos para que esa normativa sea lo suficientemente fuerte para prevenir la ocurrencia de incendios forestales.
Analizar el tema del cambio climático y como la normativa puede colaborar en la prevención, mitigación y adaptación al cambio climático.
Las reservas de agua:
Dentro de los efectos del cambio climático hay un tema estratégico de aguas. El abogado Carlos Bolaños señala que actualmente los inviernos son más desequilibrados en términos de lluvias, se tienen áreas con muchas lluvias y otras con pocas, lo cual afecta las reservas de agua.
Los expertos consideran que un país que quiera prevenir el cambio climático tiene que tener reservas de agua. Y que no es exagerado decir que actualmente un gobierno debe medir el éxito de su gestión en relación con los depósitos y los embalses y las reservas de agua.
El agua se produce en el bosque por lo que se debe garantizar el adecuado uso y protección del bosque para la producción de agua esto lleva a adoptar políticas más novedosas para garantizar la siembra de árboles.
Uso de la madera para la captura de carbono:
Carlos Bolaños, de la Comisión Ambiental del Colegio de Abogados señala que en el país el tema de la madera ha sido mal enfocado. La principal forma de retener los efectos de gases y el efecto invernadero es la cobertura forestal y la madera.
El árbol absorbe el carbono y limpia la atmosfera. Si se hace una adecuada utilización de la madera, cualquier mueble, cualquier producto de madera se captura el carbono.
Bolaños insiste en que en Costa rica se ha estimulado el crecimiento de la factura energética utilizando materiales difíciles en degradación, cuando lo que se requiere es estimula la industria y el fomento de la producción forestal sostenible y el desarrollo responsable del uso de la madera.
El árbol en crecimiento fija más carbono que un bosque antiguo. Entonces se puede ir renovando el bosque para tener una madera más apta para capturar carbono. La pregunta es; ¿Cuál es la política del país para la producción de madera?
