Dear all,
please be informed about the final conference of Cost Action Orchestra
to be held from 5-6 September 2016 in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium.
CONFERENCE ANOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS
“Bioeconomy and ecosystem services, synergy or conflict? Horizontal and
vertical policy analysis, modelling and orchestration in practice”
BACKGROUND: ORCHESTRA aims at supporting the coherence of forest-related
policy targets and efficiency of policy measures. ORCHESTRA has
facilitated multinational, transdisciplinary collaboration between
sociologists, policy scientists, economists and modellers as well as
active interaction with various stakeholders. The new knowledge can be
used by European policy and decision makers to adjust forest-related
policies and their implementation to the requirements of multilevel and
multi-stakeholder governance.

Dear Colleagues
We have submitted the proposal entitled Ecosystem services and the well-being of forest-dependent communities: enhancing social innovation and building resilience to global changes in remote rural areas. Could I please kindly ask you to slightly amend the title by saying 'marginalised rural areas' instead of 'remote'?
The proposed session, if accepted, will largely be based on the forestry component of our new H2020 project coordinated by me fom the James Hutton Institute. It is on Social Innovation in Marginalised Rural Areas (SIMRA). I am providing the following media link to the piece of info reflecting on it http://www.hutton.ac.uk/news/social-innovation-promote-rural-growth-across-… Thank you for incorporating the amendment into the title of our proposal.
With best wishes, Maria and Mariana

Between Tradition and Increasing Challenges: Future Development of Small-scale and Community Forestry in Times of Global Change
Foz do Iguacu, Brazil // 26 September 2016 — 29 September 2016
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce a joint and co-hosted meeting of three IUFRO groups (3.08.00, 9.03.00 and 9.05.06) close to the border between Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay at Foz do Iguacu. The conference will provide a unique opportunity to bring together researchers from all over the world to share evidence-based knowledge on small-scale and community forestry issues in Latin America, including the ecological, institutional and anthropogenic factors influencing the management and evolution of forests and forest landscapes. As traditional knowledge plays a substantial role in both small-scale and community forest ownership models, the integration of a historical dimension will provide an additional source of information in order to interpret and understand the challenges and constraints related to global change.
Participants are encouraged to submit their abstracts for oral or poster presentation. Abstracts are due by June 15, 2016 (second call). Abstracts should not exceed 300 words and should outline the aims and contents of the presentation. The abstract submission format is available for download at the conference website: http://www.latinoamericajointiufromeeting.com/. Please send your abstract to: mgabay(a)ambiente.gob.ar and communityforestry.iufro(a)gmail.com.
Please note also that registration is now open at http://www.latinoamericajointiufromeeting.com/registration/!

Hello:
We look forward to the upcoming IUFRO Communications and Public Relations Working Party and United Nations FAO-ECE Forest Communicators Network Workshop. The agenda is nearly finalized as attached. The workshop will be held at the DoubleTree Hotel in Portland, Oregon. Information for making reservations at this as well as other hotels is below. We do ask that you make hotel reservations on your own.
We will have registration through IUFRO shortly where you can indicate what portions of the meeting you will be attending and also contribute to the costs of refreshments. Registration will be important so we know exactly how many will be attending
The program and logistics are pulling together very well, and I am excited that the workshop is now less than 3 months away.
