Biocultural Diversity are happy to announce the webinar "*Why trees matter
on farms: embracing agroforestry and agrobiodiversity for resilient
landscapes and food systems*" for *November 25th, 9.30-11.30 CET*, on
the importance of planting, managing, and preserving trees in farmland.
Trees in farmland can provide multiple ecosystem services, counteracting
land degradation and increasing food security, with positive effects on the
wellbeing of rural communities around the world.
The webinar, moderated by Agnes W. Mwangombe from the University of Nairobi
(Kenya) and Stephen Wyatt from Université de Moncton (Canada), will present
case studies and experiences from Asia, Europe, and Africa, testifying the
key role of traditional and indigenous knowledge in preserving and managing
trees in farmland and their contribution to sustainable rural development.

Invitation to Consortium on Legacy Forest Information Resources

IUFRO approved our proposed Task Force on Legacy Forest Data and Related Resources (T57 https://www.iufro.org/task-forces/t57-legacy-forest-data-and-related-resour…) The purpose of this Task Force is to contribute to the rescue, curation, and use of Legacy Forest Information Resources. These resources are older data and other sources that are useful for forest restoration and many other purposes. But they are in danger of being lost due to existing only on paper or older digital formats.
We are also forming a Consortium on Legacy Forest Information Resources linked to the Task Force, so all can participate who are interested in legacy forest information resources. There was more interest than we could accommodate in the Task Force group. If you would like to participate in the Consortium, please fill out the Google Form at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe1AbTK29G4rpDXdRgBF5nXDP49aWUsIxd…, and we will invite you to join and contribute to the online discussion “spaces” (using Google Chat) on various topics. The IUFRO Task Force - Post-Conflict Forest Landscape Restoration: Make "It Back Better" – invites contributions for a forthcoming Special Feature of Sustainability Science on “Post-conflict Forest Landscape Restoration: sustainability pathways for socio-ecological recovery and resilience”
Armed conflicts profoundly disrupt forest landscapes and the communities that depend on them. Ecosystems are degraded, governance institutions weakened, and social cohesion fractured. Yet post-conflict forest landscape restoration (FLR) offers a critical opportunity not only to repair ecological damage but also to foster justice, social healing, peacebuilding, and resilience. This Special Feature will explore sustainability pathways for FLR in diverse conflict-affected contexts. We seek contributions that engage with sustainability science perspectives and examine the coupled ecological, social, and institutional dimensions of restoration.
